Guys, I'm honestly trying so hard and I'm just not seeing any progress.

I haven't given up I'm just not getting anywhere so I stopped posting on here for a little while.

I had a bad dr's visit where he told me that my meds aren't helping me anymore and they might have to up them or give me some more. My body and metabolism are so screwed up and no matter what I'm eating my body is reacting like it is pure sugar.

I'm literally on a stricter diet than a diabetic diet and not doing good right now.

I keep gaining and losing the same five pounds.

Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional.

Put away the scale for a while. Take measurements every two weeks instead. It gets so frustrating sometimes, doesn't it?

My body processes all processed carbs like straight glucose, too.

Hang in there...your doctor and you will figure out your body. It's hard but at least you're being healthier and it DOES count for something, right?

Taking an approach to a healthy lifestyle is a big deal and you've taken that big step. Your doctor will help you with the rest. Be proud of yourself....

That sucks. I hit a plateau for two measly weeks and it had me ridiculously frustrated. Working your hardest and not seeing results is heartbreaking.

That being said... it is obviously time to start doing something different. Can your doctor try another med? Or a different type of diet?

I agree with SW .. healthier is better without question. but I know you must be very frustrated

And Bobbie.. no offense taken here! I understand what you meant

Have a good day girls. The elliptical ROCKS. I was very tired last night and told myself 15 minutes would do.. and still pushed to 30 minutes plus a walk so it was a good day yesterday.

Concentrating on more veggies/fruits and getting all my water today.

I'm beginning day 3 of the spark diet. So far so good. Last night I ate 2 girl scout cookies and had a margarita and still stayed within my target calorie range. So I don't feel like I am suffering or anything.

Yet. I guess I should wait until the weekend when I want to go drinking.

Kitty, the key for me is to plan ahead for everything. I don't drink .. but if I have a dinner out coming up I just plan the rest of the day around it. Maybe get in some extra exercise before hand. It would be deprivation if I could never go to a restaurant or have dessert. So if you want to go out Friday for example... plan your drinks and make up for it before hand and after and you should be fine

I understand that it's so frustrating for you! About 8 years ago I was having a really hard time with insulin etc.

My endocrinologist put me on met, and told me to follow a diet like SugarBusters or South Beach, and to give up artificial sweeteners as well. I tried to follow the diets - it was really hard and I was craving sugar and carbs like crazy. Eventually, we got a combination of meds, I picked up the exercise and with the diet changes I got back on track.

I have weight issues now that I still need to do with but the insulin issues are much better and I don't have the same problems with cravings.

Of course, this morning when I got on the scale it was back up again. *sigh*

I have to keep telling myself - this is about getting healthy and I need to ignore the scale.

Booze is going to be one of the biggest challenges for me, I think. I have 1-2 drinks most weeknights. And way more on the weekends. Dieting I'm used to, but cutting down on drinking is hard.

Yeah, alcohol adds up. Try and build it into your plan. Maybe you cut back a bit on calories on Thursdays and Sundays to accomodate the weekend plans.

I was looking at low-cal drink options the other day - some sites list it, not sure if sparkpeople has a listing of drinks?

Good choices are Bacardi Limon with diet coke, light beer, Mike's Light Hard Lemonade.

Some places have light mixers too (like margarita mix) if you ask. Generally, mojitos are lower cal than margaritas. But I LOVE margaritas.

I was doing some looking around online last night. Jose Cuervo's premixed lime margaritas are only 35 calories an ounce. I was relieved to find that out as I have a bunch of leftover premixed margarita in my fridge left over from mardi gras that I didn't want to waste.

Most of the time I am a beer or wine drinker, with the occasional shot of whiskey tossed in.

This probably isn't the most positive thing to post, but the calories from alcohol really only become a problem if you've eaten, as well.

The body burns the alcohol calories (which it treats almost like a carbohydrate, although technically NOT a carb; really it's a whole unique calorie source) first, as a preferred fuel. So if there are any fat, carb, or protein calories in your system from a recent meal, those are going to get stored as fat.

So although this isn't ideal advice, the truth is that drinking done on an empty stomach won't hinder a slim-down program all that much. It's the eating done before and after that packs on the fat pounds.

So let me get this straight. If I cut food calories in order to have a few I will not only get drunk faster, I will also be aiding my weight loss? Rock on!

Yep! The liquid diet. Plus, if you have enough, you don't care if you're fat anymore!

Well I got on the elliptical alot earlier than usual today. Only lasted 15 minutes. The entire time I was watching the clock and dying to get off. I'm going to take that as a sign that I need to do something different. I'll walk three miles tonight to make up for the crappy workout this afternoon.

Taking a day without exercise is not an option.

A. because I did that on the weekend

and

B. I have three months to get as close as I can to my goal.

It's seeming like such a short amount of time

Yesterdays update. 25 minutes on the elliptical. 3 miles walked..( and it was so cold I almost froze It was minus 23 with the windchill ).

However...

I am down 2 pounds for the week

For a grand total of 13 pounds since January 9th

It would prob be more but I really dropped the ball for almost two weeks in the end of January so I am pleased.

3 months to go ladies

(ETA .. the bridal salon called teh other day to let me know my earrings were in. Before they said "earrings" I was sure they were going to say "dress" and I almost yelled "NOOOO.. NOT YET!!!!!!" I must have sounded like I really wanted those earrings when I responded with "Oh thank god!"

meta, you walked 3 miles in that weather??!!! You are amazing.

I am getting really frustrated - I I've been hovering around the same number for almost 2 weeks now. It drops a few, then it's back up. I knew this would be hard since my current weight is the weight I was at for a long time and so it's definitely a "set point" for me. But darn it! I really need this to move!!!

I'm stepping up the exercise ladies. I have to go away for a conference for work. I'm worried about the food - meals are preset and I'm sure that it will be a challenge. I'm going to check out the hotel exercise room though and see if I can't get in some exercise to counteract the meals.

When I get back, I'm starting back on the exercise bike for REAL!!!

We're going to do this!

BA... That is frustrating. Time to change up the cardio.

If your walking throw in some swimming or biking e.t.c.

I am starting aquafit at the local pool on Monday.

2 mile walk there.. 45 minutes of aquafit... 2 miles walking back.

That will be 2 nights a week. The other 4 I will use the elliptical and take Sundays off.

It sounds like alot, but I have a pretty short amount of time so I really need to be hitting that 2 pound a week loss.

My set weight is around 140 (from what I remember ) so I imagine I am going to run into the same issue as you when I get around there. Especially with muscle. I may not even need to get under it if I like how I feel and how things fit. But alas... that is a way to go yet.

My tricks for getting through a plateau are change the exercise.. increase the water and deffiantely increase the fiber.

Good Luck at your conference. Next time claim you have a fat allergy and request an alternative menu

Just wanted to say hello - I'm starting Weight Watchers next Thursday. I lost 20 lbs on my own a couple years ago and since the A I've gained 5 lbs back. I've got to put a tent on this circus and I found out my health insurance pays for 10 weeks of WW, so I'm joining up next week.

I want to lose 20 lbs to be down to my high school weight.

I'm excited, and ready!

"I've got to put a tent on this circus.."

I love that.. I'm going to use it all the time

Welcome! The more the merrier

Where is everyone today?

It's minus kabillion degrees here and I need a pep talk before I go out for my walk (yeah I know.. I said I wasn't .. but I am )

(ETA.. I just thought of the best idea for motivation! I'm going to call the salon tomorrow and make up some silly reason why I need to come try on my dress again. That will get me to stop whining about the elliptical and my walks )
