Can someone give me a rundown on what this show is about?

Seriously though.

I have never watched a single episode but everyone is talking about it and how great it is.

I'm interested in watching it...but WTF is it about.

Thanks!!

This should sum it up:

It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls he’d known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

I think that stranger bitch might be Maria-Starr from the novels. I want Alcide with Sookie. At the very least, Jessica.

But I do love some naked Alcide, so thanks for that, stranger bitch!

coast, True Blood is the awesomest show ever that is based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels, by Charlaine Harris. AKA "The Southern Vampire" series.

Basically, Japanese scientists made a breakthrough with synthetic blood. They created blood that can be used in place of human donated blood, solving the red cross blood shortage. What this discovery also did, was allow Vampires to "come out of the coffin". They revealed themselves to humans, in an effort to mainstream and become functioning parts of society.

Their platform was that humans had no need to fear them, since the True Blood could also sustain their lives. Of course it tastes like shit, and they all still want to eat people. True Blood doesn't have that "spark" of life.

Now, the main character is Sookie, who is a telepath/half fairy. She falls in love with the first Vampire she meets, Bill. Because she can't hear his thoughts.

The show is mostly Sookie trying to "win" against evil situations. She is firmly part of the supernatural world, which includes fairies, were animals, shape shifters...and I'm sure there is more to come.

Every season there is a "great" evil that Sookie, Bill, Eric (another vampire), Sam (a shape shifter)..etc all have to defeat. In past seasons it was finding out who was serial killing "fang bangers", defeating a Maenid who created chaos, defeating a bigoted church...

This season seems to be the season where everyone hates Sookie and Vampires are rebelling against mainstreaming.

It's a really good show. I recommend watching it from season 1 though, so you can get a good idea of who the characters are, and why they are the way they are.

I think you can get the shows on the HBO.com site...maybe?

F2S, back to the previous episodes. I thought (and obviously I could be wrong) that Sookie figured out that Alcide had been glamoured and that she undid it when they were sitting in her kitchen?

She did do some sort of "un-glamoring" but I have no idea to what degree. I've never seen her do that before and everyone's powers work so differently on the show that I get lost sometimes.

Alcide and Sookie are near-misses in the books. I guess it's going to go the same way with the show.

At this point, I watch the show because Alcide and Eric are hot (can you tell I have rather catholic tastes?). The plot line went off the rails seasons ago.

Yeah, Alan Ball doesn't make any apologies for taking the show where he wants it to go.

He says he's "loosely" based it on Charlaine's books. I kind of like that the show is different than the books..that way when I read the books I don't "spoil" myself for the show.

That sounds ridiculous when we're talking about a show based on vampires coming out into the open, fairies and shifters. But whatever.

Jumping in late to this but I got hooked on True Blood in the first season but about mid season.

This season they are setting up whole different story lines which can become boring. This last episode was boring to me. But I am hanging in there to see where they go with it. The fire monster is a dumb story line, JMO. They had the sheriff sleeping with a fairy and then nothing more. They show the fairys as weak and cute and then strong and ugly, yet then go away from that story.

Eric was a GREAT character and they got away from that.

But again...they always suprise somehow, so I am waiting for it!!

He stopped being my husband the first time he cheated. It took me awhile to understand that I was no longer his wife.

I think that is my problem. It all seems so scatter shot and there's not a cohesive story that I can follow.

And I think the writers destroyed what I loved about the character of Eric. I liked him so much better when he was the distant, manipulative, totally self-focused vampire sheriff.

And Bill was better as a the true Southern Gentleman. I don't like where they are going with his character this season.

OTOH, I'm totally digging Tara as a vampire. I've wished she'd die for the last two seasons because I was so sick of her whining. She gives good vampire though.

Who all are totally disgusted with how very lame this whole season is? I agree, F2S,

It all seems so scatter shot and there's not a cohesive story that I can follow.

And it isn't even interesting. Just.....blah!

I am mad they staked Molly. She was adorable and I think that could have been interesting. RFE killed Roman, and he could have been very interesting. They are truly ruining Bill's character. I keep thinking he is going along with this because he is still good and has a plan, but I just think he is now evil.

What makes me the most angry is that it seems that the humans aren't all up in arms and out killing vampires left and right. Humans are being massacred (the frat boys......RFE and Steve had greek) and it seems that everyone isn't overly concerned.

I also reinstated my HBO just for True Blood. What a waste of money and time. If it wasn't for the chance to see Alcide naked or even just shirtless I wouldn't be watching anymore. I will see it through to the end of this season, but I don't know if I am a fan anymore!

Who is all excited and ready to be let down, once again, by tonights episode? Is there any hope for redemption at this point for True Blood? Is this the end?

Stay tuned for the answer to these questions, and many more, in the next episode of this thread!!!!!

*Spoiler* for episode airing 8/19/2012

Well, at least Alcide made a shirtless appearance so it wasn't a total waste of an hour.
