another 4 pounds lost, so that makes the grand total 17 pounds down. I still have a long way to go but I am sure trying.

Hey....great job. I lost two of the three I had put on already as of today so hopefully tomorrow will be safe again. I worked out hard for 20 minutes and did 15 minutes of pilates. I'm not graceful at it yet but I did it.....lol.

Brokenapart, thank you for the recipe on the baked chips. Tortilla chips are my absolute weakness.
Have really been struggling lately with the weight loss and emotional eating. Easter weekend sucked emotionally thanks to my dysfunctional family but I am back on track today.
Did anyone watch I Can Make You Thin on TLC? I caught the rerun of the 1st show and he made some interesting suggestions.
Rule#1 Eat when you are hungry Sounds simple I know, but alot of us don't eat when we are hungry, we eat out of habit, boredom, emotion, or just because it's lunch/dinner time. he highly suggests listening to your bodies hunger signals.
Rule #2 Eat whatever you want. I don't know that I totally buy this advice, but he suggests that when you make a food off limits then you begin to obsess about it. I find this is very true for me. I "think" about food too darn much. He swears that if we follow rules 3 and 4, we can eat whatever we want. Well, I'm planning to tell myself that I want salads and yogurt and fruit.
Rule #3 Eat consiously. This I found very interesting. He went to a restaurant and showed people eating. Most everyone was just shoveling the food in their mouths. Not really even taking the time to enjoy it. He suggests putting the knife and fork down after every bite and chewing 20 times, savoring every bite.
Rule #4 Stop eating when you are full. Ok, obvious rule, but when we are shoveling the food in so fast, we tend to miss the "full" signal from our brain. Buy the time we finish, we are over-full. You have to train yourself to recognize the "full" signal. He took a group of people to a restaurant for breakfast. Everyone finished their plates. The next day he took the same people back to the same restaurant and blindfolded them. Made them put the fork down between bites. Noone finished their plates and most left at least half of the food and said they were full.
Friday is a rerun of episode 2, how to stop emotional eating. I think there are 5 shows in all. I'm going to record them. I figure it couldn't hurt.
I'm not going to let this define me anymore. He's gone and I couldn't be happier.

thank you so much for the encouragement....I have been mostly walking, treadmill and track and some crunches on the weight equipment...What are pilates? (this is coming from a severly exercise impaired person which makes my joining a fittness center just short of miraculous)

Thanks for the posting, it actually sounds like some really good advice, I wonder how many times I actually eat out of the wrong reason and do it unconciously...interesting.

I was so bad yesterday. I had a huge mocha from Caribou after work. And loads of real ranch dressing on my chef salad for dinner. I was convinced I'd get on the scale today and have gained back all ten pounds.
But the scale is not budging - in either direction!

I must say this eating consiously thing really does work. I've tried it for 3 meals now, and I feel very satisfied after my meal.
DCK don't get down on yourself for a bad day.
Biggest Loser - I love this show. Ali has really inspired me. Her starting weight was the same as my starting weight a year ago. I keep looking at her now and telling myself in 40 more lbs I can look like she does.

I got on the scale and all the 3 pounds I put on at Easter were off as of this morning. That's the part I love about WW....you fall off but if you get back on right away, the increases go away very quickly.
Pilates is kind of a combination of stretching and toning exercises. My mother did it for three years and never dieted (although she's a relatively healthy eater) and went down a pant size over a year without trying. She's struggling with doing it now because she's got pain in one knee and shoulder so she isn't doing it.
I didn't think I could do it, especially the abs portion but I did it. Was it graceful? Absolutely not but I did do them nonetheless. I just have to remind myself I couldn't do the elliptical a few weeks ago either and I can do 45 minutes easily now.
We are all going to get there...and we're going to pull each other out of slumps and nudge each other along.
We'll see what the scales have in store for me over the next couple of days.....

I found an interesting article on calories and weight maintenance.
on prevention.com
Basically, the number of calories that an average woman needs to maintain a certain weight:
bodyweight multiplied by:
x10 if inactive
x13 if moderately active
x15 if active 30-60 min 5days a week.
So if you weigh (or want to weigh) 150, and you're inactive, you need 1500 calories a day.
If you're active a few days a week, you'd get 1950.

I have tried the eliptical and dang, I think I need to stay on the treadmill (3mph) a while longer,
but the pilates sound like something I need so I will have to look into them.
Hey, I am in the active catagory now, 5 days a week, 40 minutes for 3 of those day and 60 minutes or more for two days...wooohoo, I guess 50 isn't to late to start a new thing after all.

I was good today. A drug rep brought in lunch and I wasn't sure what the value was so I was cautious in calculating points...I erred on the high side a little to be safe. I worked out with my boys tonight on the elliptical....not all of us on it.....lol. I burned 300 calories and I just drank two big glasses of water.
I was a do gooder today.
Friday I'm going to see Celtic Woman in concert and my mom wants to go out to eat prior to the show. I don't mind but she's not calorie conscious so it will be a tough night but I'll manage. I'm mulching my parents house for them on Saturday too so that will be a good calorie burn. I'm dreading doing it though because I just did all that sandbagging and not dying to do any heavy lifting again. Am I a good daughter? Heck yeah....I don't even have my house done yet.....lol. Then it takes me a while to get psyched to do mine because it's such hard labor and I already did hers....lol. Oh well...they do a lot for my boys so I can't complain (okay, maybe a little....lol).

Small victory for me. I've vowed to try and eat more things that I have never liked before. I'm not a veggie eater at all. Today at subway I got tomatos and black olives on my sandwich. Ok, I know that might not seem like a big deal to most of you, but it was a huge step for me.
eta: I also ran 1 1/2 miles after work. Planned to do my Pilates reformer when I got home, but the little guy wanted some mommy time, so I will have to fit it in tomorrow.

That is a HUGE step...be proud of yourself. In being honest, I'm not a veggie fan either and never have been. I can do many of them raw but if you cook them, yuck.
The easier ones for me to move to are green beans (fresh) made with onion, butter substitute and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. I can also do steamed broccoli with a butter substitute and sprinkled with light parmesan cheese. Those are the two I can do.
Since I don't get enough veggies, I do a ton of fruits. I do bananas, strawberries, black rasberries and a few others. I do baby carrots for a zero point filler with sandwiches and whatnot.
You can find some low point healthy stuff...and....as you go along through this, you'll find your tastes change too and you can try some others.
I had good news on the scales this morning....yippeeeeee....I'm down 32.5 lbs now. I was up three pounds on Monday from Easter, I lost that and lost another 1.5 on top of it. What a great morning !!!!
I'm going to get there yet !!! 15.5 lbs to go to goal .....

Needing_charity,
I think you mnay not be eating enough. When you eat a low-calorie diet and work out a lot, your body goes into starvation mode, meaning it fights to keep the fat, etc on because you're not eating enough.
I think if you read more on Sparkpeople, you'll find some articles on that issue. Have you tried to factor your work-outs into Sparkpeople and see what calorie range they recommend?
Just a thought.

sw - congrats on the lbs lost!!! Yes I am hoping that by adding veggies in small doses my tastes will change. I must say adding those tomatoes to that sandwich really did change the way it tasted. I've been looking for tips on broccoli, so thanks for the idea about steaming it and adding some parmesean cheese. That sounds yummy.
dck - I hear ya! Have you tried turkey burgers? I have and they really are pretty good.
broken - thanks for the advice about the pilates on sparkpeople. I went to that site the other night, but for some reason I don't surf around much and always end up back at SI surfing here.

I have tried turkey burgers, and also veggie burgers. Both are just fine, but that is not what I am craving. I want a real cheeseburger. A good one from a non-chain place that makes them by hand. With real cheese on it. And bacon. And a toasted bun. And fresh onion rings.
I promised myself some little indulgence when I have lost 25 pounds. Maybe that will be it.

DCK, if you really want a cheeseburger, can you work it in one day? I know that it's hard to even think about some hi-cal foods, but I agree with you that you have to build in some treats.
For me, I'm craving a big plate of oooey, goooey nachos with everything on them.

Well, I got the results of my recent bloodwork and I'm bummed. My triglycerides are still high. They're down from the last time I went (but that was 2 days after christmas and I'd been eating junk.)
I've worked so hard to change my diet. I've cut out all sugar except for 1 or 2 fruits a day (and even there it's the lower sugar ones.) I've lost 18 pounds. I've only had 2 drinks in 3 months. I'm eating lowfat. I've cut back on carbs - basically just fruit, veggies and 2 whole grain servings a day (one at breakfast, one at lunch.)
My cholesterol isn't any better either - the overall number is a little better but my ratio is a little worse.
*sigh*
So I have to make some more changes:
1) up my fat intake - adding more omega 3 and mufas.
2) exercise more!
3) keep losing to get rid of the belly fat that is surrounding my organs. (that's the last to lose.
)
I feel like I've done so much these past 3 months and I have so little to show for it. Oh well. I'm learning as I go, right?
