This isn't exactly weight related but it's an exercise related question...sort of. Last night when I went for my walk, I knew it was cold but I didn't realize how cold it was. I was in a t-shirt, fleece hoodie and fleece zip-up sweatshirt (with both hoods up and tied) and a pair of sweatpants. The temps were probably in the low 30's and by the time I got back home, my legs were numb and my cheeks were red. Ok, no big deal. Well, this morning I woke up and my cheeks are still red ~ almost like they are chapped. I'm going out walking again tonight and temps here today are a low of 26 and a high of 35, so it will be cold again. What can I do to prevent waking up with red cheeks again tomorrow? I have fair skin to begin with so it's very obvious.

First, put on a good moisturizer. Sounds like windburn. Second, wrap a scarf around your face. Not the best for walking, but you don't want further damage.

What do you guys have when you are just craving something sweet so bad?

What do you feel is a safe sweet snack for you?

NA,

If I really want something sweet, I try to appease myself with fruit or yogurt. But if I know that won't cut it, then there are a few types of snacks I eat. Black licorice twists (from Twizzler) are 150 calories for 4, and Jelly Belly jelly beans have 4 calories per bean. One serving is 35 beans so that's a decent snack for me. Also, I LIVE on the 100-calorie snack packs. They have all kinds of cookies now and Walmart is getting on the bandwagon with their own Great Value brand. I picked up some of their mini-chocolate chip cookies and they were pretty good. I even found a 100-calorie chocolate covered pretzel bar from Hershey's which takes care of my sweet and salty cravings.

Iced coffee with skim milk and splenda, mixed up in the blender. It's cold, sweet and seems to satisfy the urge.

Do you like sweet chocolate or sweet sour? (my weakness is sour candy.) Fruit. Strawberries are great - 1 cup is a point on weight watchers. If you buy them frozen you can make smoothies, or eat them sort of frozen and they take longer to eat.

I really like the 100 calorie chocolate bars too. They won't satisfy a hunger but they will satisfy a craving.

1 banana (2 points)

2 tbsp of chocolate syrup (2 points)

Dip the banana in the chocolate - yummy. Not a snack I would have every day but it really takes care of craving days.

Really, NA, the best thing to do, for the long haul, is tough it out. Hard, I know, but worth it. White sugar and white flour are an addiction. Not to mention bad for you, and the reason many people put on pounds---carb over-dose.

Once you cut them (not all carbs, just white sugars and white flours) out of your diet, after about a week of withdrawl, you'll miss it much less, and hardly crave processed white flour or sweets at all. And when you do give in, fruits will satisfy.

I finally took the time to read all the posts on this thread and now maybe I can keep up w/ all the new ones. I LOVE WW!! I joined online at the end of May and stayed OP until mid Sept. Lost 32 lbs. during that time. I've kept it off, but now need to get back w/ the program. This will help.

Here's a few suggestions....

For those wondering about cost, online is 65 for the first 3 months (includes a sign up fee) but only 16.95 per mo. after that. I don't have time for meetings, so this works for me.

Even if you don't sign up, please go to the WW site and sign up w/ a screen name. It is free and their forums are packed full of ideas, pointers and recipes.

Everyone's posts of losing has definitely got me motivated to be able to join you in the woohoo category.

NSV (non scale victory) for me has been hearing someone tell me that for every pound I have lost since D (total of 82 lbs.) the OW has put on!!! I LOVE IT!!!

If it is to be it is up to me.

Oooo tgk.. that would be a good motivator! Think of it like some sort of voodoo curse.. "Every cookie I don't eat goes straight to Ow's ass"

Well gang. Today was a pretty good day. Still in my nutrition and fitness ranges.

But it's time to add some strength training and for some reason I am dragging my butt about that. I'll give myself another day or two but then I have to get with the program.

Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

Is it too late to join this thread?

I started Weight Watchers online in September...lost 10 pounds and then got distracted through the holidays and gained almost all of it back.

I've been looking for a way to get motivated again. I think this thread will do the trick!

I need to lose almost 80 pounds, so I have a long way to go.

BTW...for those looking for tasty, legal snacks...Weight Watchers make ice cream bars that are wonderful. The fudgesicles are huge and only 1 or 2 points (can't remember which--I'd have to go check the package)

ETA Okay, I checked the package...The WeightWatchers giant fudge bars are only one point each. They're really good.

NA, I'm a sugar addict as well

Some of my tricks:

1. Hot tea/coca: (I like Lady Grey or the Lipton white tea/peach mango) or cocoa with a hit of whipped cream.

2. "Diet" ice cream with diet root beer to make a float.

3. Sliced apples dipped in peanut butter or into that tub of low-cal caramel sauce that grocery store sells near the apple/produce section.

4. Mint patty. The points aren't free, but if you eat it after dinner, the brain is fooled by the peppermint into thinking you're full. Then brush and floss, and - if you can - grab a good book in bed. Sleep away the craving!

SuzyCC, I have about 80 lbs to lose too. It sounds like such a huge number, but y'know, I'm just not all that bothered by it. It took me quite a few years to put it all on. It's going to take me a year or more to get it all off. I'm viewing the weight loss as a slow regaining of myself and the life I used to lead. Pre-kids, I was strong, fit and energetic. That was seven years ago. If I can gain that "old" me back in two or three years, I'm still ahead of the game.

In other news:

NA, it must have been something about the moon phase. I wanted nothing more than a huge pile of bad stuff yesterday. Still, I held pretty firm and only went four points over my daily limit (meaning, I took 4 points off my weekly flex points). I have to tell you though that at bedtime I was curled up reading and got *SUCH* a craving for sweets. I wandered out into the kitchen and went right to the fruit bowl, grabbed a tangerine, and went straight back to bed to peel and eat it. I didn't look at the cupboard, I didn't look at the fridge. You know how a little kid will run by the door of a dark room because the boogeyman is in it? Yeah. That was me.

Ironically, so far today I feel like hard-boiled hell from a cold/allergy/sinus flareup, so I probably won't be eating much at all. Looks like a day full of V8, water and maybe a veggieburger later. My appetite falls considerably when I feel under the weather.

As with most of my plans, my goal to begin a walking routine this week has fallen through. On the flip side, Mr. Threnody took the phone book with him today so he can call around about daycare/mother's day out for the two small ones to give me time to work out, study, and write. With luck we'll have them stashed in care for a couple of days a week and I can go walk my fill around the beautiful ponds we have here in town in daylight! I have a pedometer with a "screamer" ripcord alarm, but some of the areas around here aren't fully developed and/or are tucked in behind ponds and trees and such. Even if I pulled the ripcord and the thing starts bleating like an out of control alien, it'd be hard at night for someone to hear/see me to give aid.

I bought the pedometer, by the way, at The Walking Site's store a couple of years ago. The 10,000 steps program is pretty cool, and some of you may find it helpful or motivational:

http://www.thewalkingsite.com/10000steps.html

I'm considering making a tofu dish tonight for my supper while the family chows down on their chicken. Thing is, I've never cooked with the stuff before except to make a cheat recipe of saag paneer. Does anyone have a good, easy recipe for it? I found one that doesn't look to bad, and if I use sesame oil instead of veggie oil I can have a better outcome in taste and nutritional balance. I'm just not sure I want to start cooking at 3 so I can eat by 6. The less time spent in the kitchen right now, the better.

Boogeyman!

Ok all you exercisers - you have motivated me.

I haven't been consistently exercising since September so I am starting back slowly. 20 minutes of Windsor pilates and a 30 minute tae bo tape.

Thanks for all the snack ideas!!!!

I went walking again last night ~ this time I upped it to just over 2.5 miles. We're supposed to get snow tonight so I'm not sure if I'll make it out for a walk or not but I'll try. I got on the scale this morning and there has been no change (ugh!!!) but I'm hoping it will start moving down. I've been really good about staying in my calorie range ~ and I have to say I will be very frustrated if I don't see any progress by early next week. That's when I'll need the motivation to stick with it and not bail.
