Greenegirl, have you ever focused on the glycemic index? For some people, it isn't how many calories you eat, it's how effectively your body is able to use the calories you consume. For me, I know that I can't eat high glycemic foods. My Dr. recommended SugarBusters to me and it really helped me understand that some "healthy foods" were not reacting well for me.
Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion about glycemic index. I think I do have problems with that. I've been avoiding sweets for a while now, but I might have to cut out all extra carbs.
I eat minimal carbs and only those in fresh fruit (no juice) and very fibrous whole grain alternatives. No white flour, pasta, sugar.
If a bread type food doesn't have at least 5 grams of fiber per serving and a good amt of protein as well, I don't eat it. I never eat or drink corn syrup.
Since menopause my system is VERY slow. I am sure the answer is MORE EXERCISE. That seems to be the answer to all problems, more or less.

Morning!
I'm not doing too badly so far - weighed myself yesterday night 15 st 10. Yuk.
So need to get to about 13 st 7, preferably a bit less, but that would be fine. So am 220ib now and want to lose 31lb. OMG.
Ate just about within points yesterday, didn't make it onto the exercise bike, but did some heavy gardening instead. Just about to go and dig a load of shrubs up, so that'll be todays activity - walked DS to nursery too and no foot pain, so everything is looking up, just need to keep on the straight and narrow for food.
How's everyone else doing today?

Hey b!
Well, the scale has slowed down, but I expected that so I'm not discouraged. Had something of a binge last night, but I pulled it together and got back on track. It was definitely stress eating - had a rough day with an e-mail exchange with xh. Today's a new day.

Is everyone getting in enough water? How about your fruits and veggies. What about exercise?
If anyone has any tricks on how they make sure they do all these things, it would be great if you could share them!!!!

the water is hard for me. I used to have a really big mug for water, that I'd fill with ice and water and keep on my desk. That worked pretty well - I need to get another one.
fruits and veggies aren't as hard - I always have a fruit at breakfast and usually one for snack. I have a big salad at lunch almost every day and then one or two with dinner.
V-8 works if you don't get enough, but I can't drink that now because I'm watching my potassium..

I drink a lot of water after my workout plus I drink diet caffeine free pepsi and that counts for some of it.
I have fruits mostly but some raw veggies with my lunches and for snacks. They are low point fill me up foods. That allows me to eat things like hamburgers on the foreman grill and have low point sides.
I am feeling better than I have in a long time and that's with just a 15 pound loss. It's the exercise making me feel better and I'm glad to not be feeling much older than I really am for a change.
I went down this morning and burned another 360 calories and I'm down 15 pounds today. Another bunch to go but I'm doing it one pound at a time.

I got onto a tortilla kick a number of months ago. Nearly everything I eat goes on a small soft tortilla. The kind I get only have 1 gram of fat. The next size up has 1.5 grams. Some of the whole wheat ones are loaded with fat so ya gotta watch the nutrition label.
One of my 'fruit burrito' recipes:
Smidgeon of peanut butter and/or cream cheese, 2 - 3 almonds, 2-3 walnut pieces, then whatever fresh fruit will fit on it- apple, banana, berries, figs, kiwi, etc.
An example of vegie burrito:
tablespoon hummus or salsa, cucumber, sprinkle of pepitos and/or pine nuts, jalapeno bits, spinach.
Mix and match whatever is in season or in the 'frige.
I eat very little meat except in winter time.
I eat every couple hours throughout the day to keep my metabolism boosted.
I carry a water bottle with me nearly all the time. I usually add some local honey to it since it helps with my allergies and adds some flavor.
I rarely eat processed food other than the tortillas, and no sodas at all.
I get up an extra 45 - 60 minutes early in the mornings to have "me" time- usually exercise of some sort- aerobics, stretching, weights.
It's a matter of developing new habits. A lifestyle change.

YES!!! Truer words never spoken!!! I have been so damn careful about everything going into my mouth. I was at the grocery store the other day and they were out of my normal whole wheat tortillas.. so I went up a size and switched brands(figured it would be about twice the calories and fat).
Imagine my surprise when I went to enter the fat and calorie content on this thing and it had jumped to almost 5 times the regular one
Not a mistake I will make twice. Deffinately don't assume even when it seems right.. check your labels!!

You guys will be so proud of me. I was off today so I sorted, folded and hung up about eight loads of laundry in front of the dryer that I was behind on. I went to the clubhouse and worked out hard burning 360 calories. I ran a million errands and then ran the kiddos everywhere and had some time and nothing on my plate that HAD to be done so I went back to the clubhouse and did another 30 minutes on the elliptical. I burned another 260 calories in that half an hour for a burn of 620 calories for today.
For a girl who couldn't do more than three minutes on the elliptical when I started, I'm rocking on it now. I could have gone another ten or fifteen minutes on it tonight but my H saw my SUV there on his way home from class so he stopped in. I was at my 30 minutes so I just wrapped it up and left. I don't feel run down at all.
Now...that being said...I never have this kind of free time. It was a fluke today but I took advantage and tried to boost my metabolism along.
This morning I was down 15.5 pounds so I am super motivated.
I hope I can inspire anyone struggling with a certain exercise. If I can do it, you can do it. Just boost up a little bit each time and soon you will be a master at it.
Everyone is doing so good...keep up the good work.

Oh boy SW.. you are absolutely inspiring me!! Good for you!!!!
I did that extra push tonight too.. and it feels awesome!
I would love your (or anyones) suggestions on good indoor exercises or tapes.
It is about to get really really cold here and that makes it impossible to walk. (snow and windstorm tommorow).
Any suggestions for good dvd's appreciated

I don't know exactly what to say here but want to encourage everyone, so I'll mention my success story. I am a Life Member and I've been under my goal for about 2 years now. Even though I only show as losing about 25 pounds, I lost a lot more than that because I joined WW after losing, gaining, losing, gaining, A LOT over the years! My highest non-pregnancy weight was over 200 lbs; I did weigh around 170 when I was 19 years old and married my first H. I now weigh 117. (WW goal is 120).

Bobbie-Sue, Wow!
That's very inspiring. As hard as it is to lose, it's harder to keep it off for the first year. You've absolutely inspired me not to give up.

I'm rather disappointed in myself for the past 3 weeks, give or take one!!!
In the past weeks, I've been remiss in attending WW mtgs. and haven't weighed myself. All of my time was spent taking my son to the bus stop at 6 a.m., then going up to the rehab place to spend 5 or 6 hrs. with hubby!!!!
I know, I should, ideally, take the time to take care of myself!! Well, I'm going to go weigh in next Tues., and not attend the mtg. I need the journals!!! However, beginning on the 12th Feb., I'm going back to the mtgs. and taking my 3 hr. 'luxury day' as I call it!! The rest of the week will be spent at the rehab place and doing the obligatory, follow-up, 'dr. visits'; or, whatever else "rears its head"!!
Hey, life is what happens when you're not planning it, as they (some experts) say!!!!!

I just found this thread - can I join in too? I started back on WW Jan 12 and have lost 7 lbs so far... my weigh in is on Saturdays. I'm starting to lose my motivation (too much stress, plus my leader is new and not the best), so any support I can get would be awesome!!
