Yeah, planning really helps. Has anyone read that book about strength training and weightloss? (I know, probably a zillion.. I can't remember the guy's name but he was on the Today show in the past week.)
He was saying that when you build muscle you burn more calories because muscles use more calories. That's a good incentive for me to break out the free weights!

I have never read the book but I did read a few articles about that on Sparkpeople which is what motivated me to start strength training. Makes sense to make the workout more productive as well as tone up.

Weigh in day - down another 2 lbs for a total of 13lbs
Weights and cardio - I believe that everyone responds differently. I don't think it is a one size fits all. Even so, I do think we should have include strength training in our workouts. I know that I do my weights 2-3 times a week and on the other days, it is cardio (tae bo, step aerobics). Due to my schedule, I use dvd and vcr tapes. Even though I belong to the gym, I find I am more consistent with the tapes - I can squeeze in a 30 minute tae bo tape much easier that going to the gym.
Hearing everyone's results in really keeping me motivated!!!
Where is SW - haven't seen her for a few days. Check in when you can!!!

Lifetime member checking in. I have been unable to weigh in the last 3 months (partially being sick, partially being lazy
) and my weight has crept up a little. So I am back on track. I want to lose 2 pounds by my next weigh in. Since I only have to weigh in every month I should be able to manage that!
Hopefully posting here will give me some accountability!

It's so nice to hear from the lifetimers! It's really encouraging to hear from folks who've been able to lose weight and keep it off. Thank you!
Well, I got on the scale this morning and hit my first "real" goal, so yay for me! I've got a ways to go, but I'm doing it. Everyone is doing great, and it's really hoping to have this little group of friends to cheer eachother on. Thanks so much for starting this sw.

I'm doing good. I have worked a ton of extra hours this week and last week. It's made it harder to do meal prep for dinner but I've done okay. I gained two pounds one day and I have no idea why so I'm working on getting that down. It may have been water weight since I finished my cycle, who knows...that's what you get when you get obcessed with the scale....lol.
I'm down 19.5 and pushing hard to get that extra half a pound to reach a 20 pound goal. It's being stubborn and won't melt away fast enough for me...lol.
Even though I've been swamped, I've made my commitment to work out every day. Some days are late at night but I've kept my commitment.
I can see a big difference with my body type now. My abdomen has a lot of work to go but it looks so much better. Even one of my patients asked me if I was losing weight so it's enough to show......yippeeeee!!!
I'm hanging in there with each and every one of you. I'm going to work on strength training too. I need to shake up my workup. I have been doing the elliptical to burn off between 300 and 430 calories a night. I'm going to do that maybe four days and then do some strength training for three days. I just have to find the right workout for me since I let myself get so out of shape. I'm definitely better. I feel so much healthier...
My breathing is better, my knees are better. My feet are bothering me a bit but I bought new tennis shoes and havent' been wearing my orthotics (heel spur). I need to get those in those shoes and that will hopefully make the difference.
One day at a time ladies....that's what we're going to do.
I'm going to hit that 20 lbs too....I'm going to get there yet !!!
For those that want to start strength training but are very out of shape...I found a good web site. I've done a lot of these in physical therapy too when I had a bulging disc a couple years ago. They really aren't too difficult.
Here's the website I found that has a lot of stuff for beginners and ways to build up.
http://exercise.about.com/cs/exbeginners/a/begstrength.htm
This is something good to do when it's too cold to go outside or too late to go to the gym. It's another great option.

There you are SW!
I hear you about the 2 pound jump on the scale. I had an extra unexpected two pounds there this morning
I have decided I weigh myself first thing in the a.m. and the the scale goes back in the closet for the rest of the day.
Friday mornings are my official weigh in days.
I think I need to get out a tape measure and start logging inches lost. That's far more tangible and less frustrating than the scale that hops all over depending on time of month , or day
I will check out those strength exercises. Right now I just do the beginner ones on sparkpeople. And don't let the word beginner fool you ladies... they are HARD. (Especially the abs ones. My stomach needs a real tune up after those 10 pound babies of mine
One day at a time everyone.
I just can't wait until the weather is warmer. These 3 mile walks (I added a mile) are really tough in sub zero weather. But I'm doing them anyway

I went back and reread some posts because I've been so swamped, I wanted to make sure I didn't miss any.
You guys are so very welcome for starting this post. I knew I wasn't alone out there and I love being supportive and getting the support when I need it.
I did this to my body but I can fix it too. I'm proud of myself that I lived through a major ordeal, let it beat me down but I stood tall and am taking my life back....the last piece.
I'm going to be healthy and fit....no more emotional eating and no more couch potato. I'm going to be fit and healthy and I'm going to do it with my friends here. You guys have been great from every aspect.

Well I was just invited out to dinner for my sisters birthday tonight.
Luckily the restaurant menu was posted online so I was able to plan what I am going to order. I also haven't had lunch yet so I have about 800 calories to play with which is good.

I wish more restaurants would post menus and nutrition info.
I just pigged out on guacamole, but it's a healthy fat, right?
I made my own tortilla chips - just cut up 2 corn tortillas and baked them on a baking sheet sprayed with olive oil spray.
I mixed the avocado with lots and lots of red onion and tomato so it went really far. Still, I have to be super careful now for dinner.

I'm going out to eat tonight too. I'm going to a greek restaurant so I have no idea the point value. I've only had about five points today so far so I've got a bunch left plus I have my bank points. I should be okay in the end. I was hoping to shake that last stubborn half a pound for my 20 pound goal but probably not by morning since I'm having a nice dinner.
However, I did do an extra long workout to help. I burned 500 calories on the elliptical. It was quiet there tonight so I didn't have to share the equipment...I took advantage and worked out for 58 minutes on it. Long workout but it will make my dinner easier....lol.
Have a great night guys and enjoy your weekend of good health.

Well ladies .. happy to report that planning kept me totally on track! Then I came home and walked 3 15 minute miles so all is well.
Can I just say I feel fantastic?? I'm tired at bed time.. wide awake in the morning and have tons of energy for the kids. I am also generally just happier! None of the mood swings I was having when I was eating garbage. So may benefits to this!

I was good at the restaurant...I ordered what I wanted. I got chateaubreand, twice baked potato, broccoli and a greek salad. I passed on dessert and the owner came to the waiter and told him to send us home with some baclava....free. I brought it home to my boys and was good and didn't eat it....lol.
The dinner was heavenly and I'm glad I treated myself. I can't imagine that I would be over on points with 17 left for the day, 35 bank left and the workout I did. If I did go over...oh well....it's a lifestyle change, not a diet....or so I remind myself.
Back to the elliptical tomorrow and if I can, I'll do an extra long workout to be cautious. It felt good to treat myself so it was worth it.
I'm totally satisfied tonight.....lol. YUM.

I was so proud of myself today. I threw a baby shower for my cousin today and there was a ton of food. I ate a lot of raw carrots and grape tomatoes before everyone got there, just munching. I had two very small pulled pork sandwiches and two diet sodas. That's all I ate all day with all of that sitting in front of me. I came home, worked off 430 calories on the elliptical, had some low cal pizza (that I highly recommend) and a two point fudgsicle. I made it through a party without eating all day. I kept myself very busy entertaining so I'm sure that made it easier.
One foot in front of the other....I'm doing it !!!

Good for you SW!! Social eating situations are the hardest to stay focused in. All the chatting and break from routine usually means a break from healthy eating as well.
I'm proud of you too!
I was up a pound this morning for no good reason. Sorry for the T.M.I.. but it is that time of the month starting today so I am hoping it is just due to that.
Walked 3.3 miles last night and tonight. Had steak for dinner which put me a little higher in calories... but not out of my range.
I'm feeling really impatient these days. I have been so good .. I feel like the weight should just be falling off. But I know that is just because I am worried about the first fitting when my dress comes in. A deadline is a good motivator sometimes.. and a reason to get really frustrated at other times.
One foot in front of the other indeed.

Well,
The goal was to lose 2 pounds a week until the wedding. So far in six weeks I have lost eleven pounds. So that is pretty much right on track.
So by mid April I would like to have lost another 16 pounds.
I feel like that is feasible.
The lady in the dress shop told me that the way that my designer sizes her dresses that it is approximately 15 pounds to go down one size.
So the goal is by mid May to have gone down 2 sizes.
(ETA.. and when I ordered the dress small they all kind of rolled their eyes and went on and on about how hard it would to lose the weight blah blah blah... soooooo... I am kind of looking forward to my "In your face " moment)

it will be sooooo good when you have that moment Meta - make sure you share!
I had a crap weekend - meals out, stayed at the inlaws, no control over what or when I ate - total nightmare, but I didn't go too mad, and back on SP today - was at the hospital for my feet today, so no time to excercise, but a friend just cancelled tomorrow afternoon, so I'll get on the bike after the psych appointment tomorrow am - I can finish the cleaning in the afternoon
Well done for staying on top of things everyone. lb by lb it will come off!!
