Dr. Loren Pickart's Copper Peptides skin and hair products. The best (by far) I have ever found.
http://www.skinbiology.com
The website is so rich in information it can be confusing. Begin with pausing your cursor on the left side of top tool bar, on the "About Us" designation, then, on the drop down menu, click on "Skin Biology's Approach To Making Skin Products" for an overview.
My recommendation to begin:
CP Night Eyes (despite the name, this is an eye cream; I use it day and night)
P&R (Protect & Restore) creams (very light in texture) for the skin: either Classic, Day Care (has sun protectant in it), or High Retinol. One of these is probably the best way to start for a facial and neck cream.
Gentle Clean (in liquid or bar form) for the face and body.
Folligen Shampoo
Folligen Conditioner
And with all of these, all you need is a little bit; they go a long way.
The philosophy underlying these skin and hair products is unlike anything else I am aware of and I am so grateful to Deborah Crowley (www.flexeffect.com) for recommending these to me. It took me about five years after her recommendation to begin actually using Dr. Pickart's products, but once I did--last November, right around Thanksgiving--it fairly quickly became obvious that this is something I'm sure I will be doing for all the rest of my life.

ANewBeginning....
My 16yr old is plagued with acne.
She's tried all the usual products (proactiv, max-clarity, et) and nothing really works other than clearing up the redness. Unfortunately, the bumps still remain.
Does the method you just described work well for you?
GabyBaby - There is a number of things someone can do but I would try to go more towards the natural approach. I was plague with them in school and still have them but most are so small and not much that other people doesn't see them.
Before comming to a natural way of cleaning simple things like diet helpped. I stopped drinking sodas and ate way less junk food and drank more water. Even now if I eat to much junk food at one time you will see it on my face. (I am one of those people that don't gain weight from junk food it goes straight to my face).
The Oil Method I am using now has helpped me so far, I only have been using it for 2 weeks and I don't plan on stopping.
There are other methods that can be tried. Raw Honey is also great, there are different formulas to using it the simplest being to just use it as if it was liquid face soap. The rest might include adding lime (which I have tried also and got good results but after reading stuff about the oil method I just wanted to try it). Once in a while I put a light coat of Aloe vera on my face(got a bottle from a natural store).
I have also tried pro-active, clearsil, neutragena, been to a doctor how prescribe something...they all worked for a while but they aren't something I want to keep using on my face as some of them bleaches your skin and the cost for others are alot.
Also I want to advice against picking at them. I still have little holes(thank God not big ones) on my face.
But what I took away from years of dealing with bad acne is I needed a better diet combine with using natural face cleansing methods helped alot. Encourage your 16 year old to look up some of these natural ways and try what will work form him/her and to try and eat healthier and drink more water, very very little soda(try 100% juice instead but still limit it).

paula's choice--i use all the products from her balancing skin care line--
she's the cosmetics cop (paula begoun) --the lady who publishes a book about the difference between marketing on the packaging, the science of the ingredient and the effectiveness of the products in the cosmetics industry.
i figured if she put her name on a line, it better do what she says it's going to, or she'll undermine her own point.
so far, i've been VERY pleased with her line--i've been using it for 6 years now.

I'm a salt scrub fan as well. I just add salt to a a dollup of facial cleanser and buff away. I moisturize every day...at 45 I have no wrinkles...which is good for a smoker.
Now dark circles under the eyes...lets not talk about them..lol

I use Oil of Olay products on my face and skin. I use Dove soap in the shower. I have a history of dry skin and my whole family swears by dove soap. And I swear by the Oil of Olay face products.

My MIL washes her face with cornmeal. When she visits us there is always some left in the bottom of the tub!
The woman is 75 and doesn't have a wrinkle - not one! She said she has been using it all her life.

Yes, I'm going to be 49 in June and still washing my face with Proactiv. I'm afraid to use anything else because of my horrible acne that thankfully has cleared up.
I've been using an exfoliating washcloth I bought for $12 on Amazon and it works great but you have to be gentle in the beginning. It's made of special fibers that exfoliate, not like regular cloth. You can use it dry or wet and with no soap on it.

I used to exfoliate like crazy and use expensive anti-agers...but last year my skin started getting increasingly dry, red, and sensitive--along with patchy areas of adult acne and stubborn bumps (not red, just raised).
About three months ago, I started using Cetaphil for cleansing--it's kind of freaky at first because it doesn't foam.
I take off any makeup first with a makeup removing wipe. I like the UP brand wipes from Target for this.
Then I follow with Kiehl's eye cream Criste Marine, and Eucerine redness relief night cream.
In the morning, I usually use Dramatically Different Moisturizer under a moisturizing foundation or I just use a tinted moisturizer--Aveeno makes one that I like (Thren's suggestion from about 1 year ago!).
My skin has really gotten better. The bumps have all but disappeared. I still have redness, but not to the same degree as before. My skin feels soft and moisturized, yet not greasy. Very few issues.
Basically, I went way back to basics.
Oh and the dr. that does my Botox (I've got mean lines between my brows...I don't freeze my whole face, though) does microdermabrasion and she said I should NEVER do that to my face because of my sensitivity.
13 years later...finally healed. Definitely survived and thrived and you can, too.

I have sensitive skin and have dealt with acne since I was a teen. Products seem to work for a while and then stop. Most are too strong for my skin.
I recently bought a Clarisonic brush and use black soap. It has completely transformed my skin, seriously, seriously transformed my skin!!

The soap is dirt cheap and the bottle will last me forever. I use Avalon Organics Vitamin C oil free moisturizer at night with the vitamin C eye cream and vitamin C sunblock during the day.
I caught part of an episode of Dirty Jobs last night. Mike was in a processing plant that had cow parts and some other mix of I don't even know what. They mixed all this shit together and said the oil that was cooked off is used in facial cleansers, moisturizers and make up
I had to change the channel, it was so disgusting.
I use mineral make up from a small company that makes their own with none of the crappy fillers that are used by bare escentuals and other commercial brands.
My face is au naturale and has never looked better

Hi!
sorry, was out and about all weekend so haven't replied.
I am going to try the sugar / salt idea. I was discussing with a girl friend and she does this too! She does the salt on her body and sugar on her face. She mixes it with baby oil and puts it in a big recycled lotion jar in her shower.
I ran across the Clarin's counter at Nordy's (I am a Seattle too!) and got a facial + makeup. The cleanser was super smooth.
Also for the 16 year old acne issue -- I have a 16 year old who acne started to pop around 13. We took her to the dr and she was allergic to one of the common over the counter acne agents. She was actually making her skin worse. She took an antibotic for 30 days and has specific lotion. Her face took about 2 months to really clear up.
alwayssomething seems to leave out words when types. Personal pronouns are something doesn't need...
