D...
I think tours and teaching nature photography would be right up your alley!
The pictures you get just continue to amaze me. There are lots of folks out there that would love to do what you do or at least go along with you while you do it!
Put me on the book list, too. I'll need about 5 copies.
13 years later...finally healed. Definitely survived and thrived and you can, too.

Thanks, Punky.
I think I'd enjoy that too. It's just one of things I'm thinking about trying to branch into.

Wow,
Is that a beak in my brain or our you just happy to see me???
That is surely a quick lesson in the circle of life. Great photo.

Smallmouse,
The camera is a Canon EOS 7D, it retails for about $1700.00 without a lens. The lens I am using costs approximately $1400.00. With the battery grip, BlackRapid strap, and 90MB/Sec CF card, add $400.00 more.
So, the rig I was using costs approx. $3500.00
Thanks, tryingtwo.
Nature never ceases to amaze.

D,
Everyday I drive over a bridge (I've mentioned it before) where eagles and hawks sit on light poles.
The other day, as I was driving a hawk swooped down into the lake and caught a fish in it's talons. All I could think about was "man, too bad D wasn't here with his camera to capture that!!"
One time a eagle had a fish up on the top of a light pole and lost its grip on it. Thud, there went the big ol' fish right onto the bridge!

jrc1963,
I would suggest that what you saw was most likely an Osprey. Very cool.
They return here, like clockwork, between the 20th and the 26th of March. (yes, they can be that precise about predicting the dates).
Fascinating and wonderful birds.
That bridge's light poles are prime perching platforms.

Now you know what makes my day, every day I get out there.
So cool that you could see that.
Here's one for you.

Defiance.
Thanks for the gear info the other day. I use stuff from the darkside,
Nikon.
I have a d300 & d200. Most wildlife is with a 70-200 vr and a 200-400 vr. The 200-400 was a insane purchase. Way to much $, but I really like it.
Great osprey shots!
Love the nest shot. I have never been able to get a view point of a osprey or eagle nest like that.

Nikon is *not* the dark side ...

dipstick,
That 200-400 is a fantastic lens. I take it you don't use it hand-held much, as it's 7.2lbs. A friend who shoots Nikon just got it. It's awesome.
Thanks about the Osprey shots. We have nesting platforms at the refuge I shoot at. Makes it very nice for photo ops.

Truly.
Sometimes you gotta humor those guys with the white lens.
Defiance.
I have hand held some shots, but only because I did not have time enough to attach my monopod.
You need to be big/strong to hand hold that one. I'm not. I think my camera and that lens is 12+ lbs.
If had a chance at shooting birds on a nesting platform like that, I would wear out my camera in a few days.

Truly.
We were posting at the same time. Mine was less. I got it before the big price increase. 5k is still insane though.
I was having a EA with that lens and sliding down that slippery slope. One day it just turned into a PA. I do not know how that happened?
I blindsided myself.
