I was just outside minding my own business---drinking coffee and smoking a cigarette--when it appeared out of nowhere and stared me down.
It was one of the local hummingbirds coming by to check me out. It hovered at eye level about 5 feet away and stayed there for about 10 seconds until I moved my cup. And then he was gone.
I've seen this many times over the years--but it's still so cool when they check you out that way
Good morning people.

I knew I was being watched--but never thought it was that serious
Maybe a tin-foil hat is in order to help me disappear

Aren't they fun? One followed me into the garage the other evening as I backed my car in! I saw her start to fly past, then take a turn to accompany me shortly before dark. Hovered in sight above the windshield for maybe 15-20 seconds before darting out. I was glad she did so I could close the door and not worry about trapping her inside.

FYI, Alcoa embosses tiny antenna patterns on the foil to boost the signal.

Bighurt,
They are cool. Better than any other bird around. They are almost friendly. And happy when you feed them.

One day I was out watering the garden using the mist setting on the sprayer. I was having fun spraying up in the air & looking at the rainbow. Then I heard this loud buzzing right by my head. I thought the mother of all hornets or a carpenter bee or something was coming in for a landing on my ear, so I screamed a girly scream & ducked sideways. The loud buzzing tracked with me, so I turned in terror to see my doom. To my delight it was a hummer checking out the mist. I stood back up & sprayed a continuous mist into the air. So then the hummer began darting in & out of the mist, taking an aerial birdbath from what I could tell! It was quite literally just two feet away, zooming in & out of the misty rainbow without a care in the world.

Love hummingbirds. They are one of the truly great wonders of nature. I have three Hummingbird water feeders and buy the sweet water for them. They are especially attracted to the red, sweet water.
