We don't have an official book club here. Just a bunch of threads with books we find interesting for various reasons.

There may be interest in starting one, though.

we did a book club here once upon a time.

We read The Secret Life of Bees.

I wouldn't mind being in a book club if we could stay away from Oprah type books and read some interesting things.

I'm beginning to think SI is the only place I'm ever going to find people willing to have a thoughtful discussion on a book... or anything else, for that matter. The book clubs I've been involved in IRL end up being "ha ha ha, read the book or Threnody will ask you the hard questions, ha ha ha!" I've become a joke, apparently, because I actually read the book and want to discuss it. I thought that's what book clubs did.

So I'm up for one, but for crying out loud, if we read Oprah books nonstop I'm going to drop my friendly online persona and go right for someone's jugular. Just, uh, FYI.

It sounds like we should come up with a list, everybody post a few books we could possibly focus on one book for one month. Does this sound ok? Definitely not up for any Oprah books or twilight. Couldn't agree more.

Hi All,

Sorry so late posting my list, it has been a crazy couple of days. So here goes,

Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen

The Falls Joyce Carroll Oats

The Black City George Sand

And then there were none Agatha Christey

The Runaway Alice Munro

(this appears to be a favorite) Time Travelers wife Audrey Niffenegger

We could all give it a couple of days. Preferably Monday, for everyone to get their lists up. Maybe Monday we could start a vote for book titles. Please let me know if this is doable..
