I do most of my reading on the bus. I have a 45 minute commute to work each way. I'm looking for suggestions for books that are good, but easy reading. Unfortunately, I'm easliy distracted and being on a bus, that's pretty much a common occurrence, so nothing that's too detailed or needs alot of thinking. I'm not into science fiction or historical romances, but will ready pretty much anything else, both fiction and non-fiction).
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Check out Alexander McCall Smith's books. They are fun and light but always have a positive message.
Sarah Allen Addison is another good "bus" author.

I'm reading "The First Horseman: Disease in Human History"...
It's for a course but it's the kind of thing I'd read anyway. I'm funny that way.

The first time I read A Prayer For Owen Meany was on a bus over the course of many daily commutes. It's a great read, and a bunch of us on SI read it recently as part of a makeshift discussion group. That's my suggestion.

Pat Taylor's "An Irish Country" series is great.
Why not an anthology of short stories? There's an annual collection, Best American Short Stories of 20--, that I really enjoy.
I second McCallSmith, he is AWESOME. I also looove Maeve Binchy.

I enjoy James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Jonathon Kellerman. (mysteries, usually) I don't care for romance novels, esp. now -ugh.

If you like paranormal mysteries, kind of like The Ghost Whisperer tv series, try Terri Reid's Mary O'Reilly paranormal mysteries, starting with Loose Ends and Good Tidings. Nice fluffy mysteries with a bit of action. Easy reading.

This will sound silly, but I really enjoy reading Calvin and Hobbes. It takes me to a happy place but Waterson also can be philosphical in his comics. it's light reading and perfect for after work.
