Almost done with Keith Richards auto bio "Life". Unless you are a huge Stones fan, you damn well better be a committed reader. This book is like 600 pages and I read fast but this is taking forever to finish.
Very interesting read tho. Keith Richards is MUCH more intelligent than for he is given credit. However, this bio could have been a more enjoyable read if he hadn't gone into minute detail of guitar playing techniques for pages and pages. He even has a little informal disclaimer before he starts on one guitar technique tangent where he warns "If you're not into the Keith Richards guitar lessons, skip ahead a few pages" (or something like that)
One other point, if he had skipped all the "guitar lessons", the book would literally be about 75-100 pages lighter and therefore a brand new hardback library book would not be coming apart at the seams after one person has read it - a person who knows how to "prime" a book and is a lover of books. What in the world is gonna happen when someone who doesn't give a **** about books reads it? The binding will come completely apart.
But that being said, it is a good read.

I tried reading it but I ran out of time before I had to return it to the library. I couldn't get through the pages and pages of guitar playing and I even play myself. But the few stories I managed to get through were thoroughly entertaining and I wish I could have made it through more. I am so happy I am not the only one who had the same thoughts about the book. I mentioned my opinion to a critic from a prominent newspaper and she looked at me like I had lost my mind to criticize the great Keith Richards. I do wonder what happened to that car in the South. The one with all the drugs in the door panels...

Keep in mind that he didn't actually write this book and his story was developed with 'assistance.'

I loved that he was an avid Boy Scout -- that he read all the books by Lord Baden Powell.
And, yes, he had an assist but his "voice" is clear, the book has his personality, and indeed the writing is not smoothed out or cleaned up. It's quite helter-skelter, and, of course, it seems very honest and open. Keith is pretty self-deprecating about everything, including his talent and success.

I agree with still confounded - it did "sound" like Keith Richards. And I agree - I wonder what happened to that car with all the drugs hidden in the panels. And of course the boy scout thing too.
I was determined to finish it and I finally did. I am glad I read it even tho it took me a little longer than the average for me (I usually read very fast)
