My sister and I saw Moneyball today. We both LOVED it but were wondering about a small detail.
The character Billy Beane is divorced andit would appear to be fairly amiicably so.
He is not remarried (although the real Billy Beane did remarry during the same period IRLO, yet he wears a wedding ring.
I know it's not mistake as the ring shows up in several close up scenes. Also, in this digital age, a gaffe like that would be swiftly and easily fixed. It is clearly deliberate.
But why?
Does he pine for his ex (who is clearly remarried to a dweeb)?
Is it so people will talk about it and speculate about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie tying the knot (not a tactic beneath the industries constant thirst for publicity)?
Other theories?
What do you think?

Sounds like I need to see it!
13 years later...finally healed. Definitely survived and thrived and you can, too.

You do, Punky. It is really a great film. And let me know what you think of the wedding ring thing...

My husband and I saw this movie last night, and wondered the same thing. I was hoping it would be explained, but when it wasn't we assumed it was so that he wouldn't have to date and could concentrate on his work. If people thought that he was married, they wouldn't be trying to set him up, and he wouldn't have to explain why he doesn't want to date. I don't know, but that's what we came up with...
Finally respecting him again.I believe that time heals almost all, wish I could fast forward time.

I saw the movie, and while it was definitely good, it actually had quite a few gaffes.
That song his daughter sings is actually a really popular song from 2008, and the film is set in 2001.
Billy Beane was married at the time this all took place, and a lot of people are saying the same thing, but his new wife didn't appear in his house/etc... Maybe it is meant to symbolize his marriage to the game? IDK, but either way, there are several gaffes that make this movie both a good movie in general and a good movie for gaffe-finders like ourselves!

My story? Summed up by the last line of Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises: "Isn't it pretty to think so?"
Alternately summed up by this awesome Mark Twain quote, "There is no humor in heaven."

I loved it too!
I read somewhere that there was an actress that actually played the part of his second wife in the movie; but her scenes were cut out...
I bet we will see "her" when the uncut DVD version comes out.
