You can tell my age by calling it an album. 
I don't know why but tonight for some unknown reason, I thought about Elton John - Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. I was in the fifth grade when it was released, my older brother's first purchase.
The artwork alone was enough to keep your attention. We probably wore out a number of needles listening to it. Thirty eight years later, I still know most of lyrics to all of the songs. Back then you would listen to the whole side before flipping it over to listen to the other side.
Old Foggy Alert - CD and MP3/I-Tunes Generations will never know the joy of getting a new album and looking at the artwork and reading everything on the sleaves. I wish that I still had the album.

So many good album covers...Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance was a favorite cover, but so was Kiss - Rock n' Roll Over and Love Gun...
One memorable album was Paul Simon - Paul Simon (from 1972)...listened to that on cassette actually, while on a family trip to Yellowstone in 1976.

Pink Floyd's The Wall. Enjoyed the music (yea, maybe a little to much 
). Grew up, found out the back story and just wow!
I am a musicphile though. Phantom of the Opera is great. AC/DC Hells Bells. Can't really put an album together with Mozart, but the Boston philharmonic does him some justice.
And now for something completely different, Pit Bull!

Omigod; I had so many. I remember being absolutely desperate to get the Beatles White Album.
James Taylor Sweet Baby James was a favorite too, as was Carole King's Tapestry.
I'll bet no one remembers Nilsson's The Point. It was a TV cartoon special to Harry Nilsson's music. I loved that one too.

Mozart, Marriage of Figaro, Erich Kleiber (I've got the original mono, complete with fancy box and book)

Weill, Dreigroschenoper, 1958 complete version supervised by Lotte Lenya
There's no way I could name a favorite recording....
Obviously, the artwork on the albums doesn't move me as much as the music.

Tj/ sisoon, have you watched Amadeus? Ben Kingsley was incredible. (i believe that was who portrays Soliarie) They actually do credit to the music as well.

I'm too young for vinyl but I own a bunch anyway. My turntable was fucked years ago though and I haven't replaced it so those albums sit around in the basement, sad and lonely. I should go get a new turntable, the weather is nice and people will be selling them for a buck a pop at the farmers market again.
It was fun to flip through them but I think I most enjoyed the 90's albums since they were intentionally anachronistic. Triumph of Steel on vinyl = win. Screaming for Vengeance and Mob Rules were close enough to that era that it seemed normal but 1992, CD was the big thing of the moment. I guess releasing something on vinyl was a way of saying "WE ARE LEGIT, NOW GET IN LINE" or something.
Sorry, just wanted to babble that vinyl isn't lost to every younger generation I guess. I agree, the big in-your-face art on the sleeve and handling the record gives you a feeling of ownership that MP3 kind of lacks.

I actually do have a favorite album. I don't much like my dad and I have a lot of hate for him for a lot of things but... he gave me a George Carlin album, Class Clown, when I was 13 or so. Yeah, I know, 7 Words is not something you give to your kid but it did foster a fond memory. So that would be my favorite album on vinyl.

I have milk crates full of record albums....Zepplin, Bowie, Steeley Dan, Elton John, Stones,Carly Simon, Heart,Eagles, and a lot of others....
A couple of years ago my SO bought me a turntable that I can play them on and digitalize them onto the computer...it is so cool...and so nice to hear the records from my teen years...

I used to listen to my dad's records. Mostly his 45s. I don't remember which ones though. I would flip through them until I found one I wanted to dance to. Then, I'd pretend I was on stage performing.

My 3.5 year old GS has some favorites: 1) a Smiths LP with a yellow cover and 3 songs, 2) anything by Jonathan Richman, and 3) a 'Beethoven' record - 'Roll Over Beethoven' on a Chuck Berry compilation CD. And he's getting into Fugazi.
The 'Beethoven' is my son's joke, given our different taste in music. I'm just waiting to get my GS alone - I'll play some Romantic orchestral music and tell GS, 'Don't play this at home - it'll drive your Daddy wild.'
My son is now letting my GS put the Smiths album on the 'table (mid-level VPI with SME IV arm and AT OC9 cartridge) and start it up.
