I switched to getting all my insurance paperwork electronically, and don't know if I should bother saving a copy (I plan to leave this job by the end of 2013). I get at least one a week because I've been going to the chiro 2-3x a week since February.
Is it worth downloading and saving them all?

an EOB (or lack there of) saved us from being sued for almost 4000 bucks. A claim from 2 years ago never processed right, and I swore to the hospital that insurance was to pay that.
It took a few months, but because I never got that EOB, I knew that it was never processed and that I needed to start with the insurance and not the hospital.

If you have a medical spending account or have enough deductions to itemize your taxes (but who does?), you need to keep them for the seven years. Medical spending is a legal tax record. Otherwise, it's like Undefinabl said. And you should read them to be sure they comply with what your insurance covers, too. I've had to dispute some because of how they were submitted by the provider or handled by the insurer.

I have a medical flex spending account, and when they ask for substantiation, they want an EOB. Luckily for me, I can go online and into my account on Aetna.com and it's all right there. I don't have to keep anything.
