Thursday I ran for the first time in the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. It was my 2nd race ever and my 1st 10K. I was so not ready. I had not completed a Couch to 5K training program I had started several weeks earlier. I went a whole week without training a couple of weeks before because I had a medical procedure done three weeks to the day before the race.
It was Fantastic!! I had a great run. Ran the entire first half without breaking stride. Had to walk up most of the hills after that but ran all the level areas and definately the down slopes.
My net time was 1 hour 16 minutes and 2 seconds!
I came in the top 50% of all finishers and in the top third of men.

Good for you! Enjoy your victory! Now you might want to find a hot tub.

Congrats! That is Awesome!
Also you had to run in the rain!
Really that is great!
What an achievement!

We got lucky with the rain. It held off until the race finished.
Yes I was sore the next day. My legs hurt so bad that everytime I got up from sitting I groaned.

And without running shorts!
Woo Hoo!
Great job! I'm so not a runner, but some of the races sound like so much fun, I might have to take a crack at them.
Congrats!

Thanks everybody.
Aj's Mom, when I stopped after the race to get a beer, a woman sitting next to me could not believe I ran the whole thing in jeans. Told me to invest in running shorts.

Thank She11y. I know the running shorts will feel a lot cooler but I hadn't thought about them helping on my time too.
Nutmegkitty, I did my 1st race last Spetember. It was a 5K Corporate run through downtown Atlanta. It was a lot of fun. The extra energy you feel from everyone around you really pumps you up.
If you have a smart phone, I recommend getting a running app. I use RunKeeper. It announces my pace and distance every 5 minutes and tracks my progtress. It is so cool when you are running in the race and the first 5 minute announcement says yopu are running faster than you ever thought you could
. It also helps you to pace yourself.
Good luck and have fun!

My first six months of running, I wore a pair of men's shorts that were too small for my fatty XH, and old tshirts. When I finally tossed those old basketball shorts, I invested in some cute women's running shorts that show off the 150 stairs I do every day in my metro commute (aka my ass looks fab).
