I'm hoping someone can help me with a medical question.
I just moved out of state for a new job. New health insurance doens't kick in for a few weeks. I still have health insurance from old company but it's out of state - so I'm going to clinics and urgent care.
3 weeks ago I thought I had strep. My old GP called me in a scrip of antibiotics. After a week it didn't get better, so I went to a walk-in clinic. Blood test confirmed I had mono.
Last week I developed a bad eye infection. Went to urgent care and doc said I got a secondary staph infection in my eye. Gave me antibiotic and steroid eyedrops for swelling and infection.
So, I'm on week 3 of this mono thing. The worst is over. However, I still have some white spots on my throat and low-grade fever (99-100) at night. I can still function just get worn out really fast and tend to get headaches and low fever about 8-9pm.
So.... is this normal? As long as I'm not getting worse do I need to go back to the doctor? I'm not under any doctor's care (again, no local GP because no local health insurance) so I have to go in and pay a lot of money to see a doctor. I just want to know if still having white spots (not sore throat though - just scratchy) and low grade fever at nights and exhaustion. Are these normal?
PS: I hate this. It's a terrible way to start out life in your new city.

FP doc here: it's normal for it to take months to get over mono. You need to take it easy as you are more likely to catch other viruses and bacterial infections while you're getting better.

Thanks so much purplejacket!
So as long as I'm continually getting better, I don't need to worry? Even if it's taking forever?!
I really want to get back to the gym. Diagnostic RN said I could go in a week. Should I wait on that a bit more? At least until white spots and fevers disappear? I'm taking short, slow walks in my neighborhood now for exercise but not even daily.

((hurtbs)) Mono sucks. It took me months to get over it when I had it years ago. Mostly my own fault because I kept working and had 3 young kids at home and just wasn't getting enough rest. Until my doctor threatened to send a letter to my work telling them I wasn't allowed to work. I had to drop to part time and spend the rest of the day in bed, until the doc would clear me to go back to full time. He also had me taking extra vitamins, flax seed oil and eating anything with antioxidants to help my immune system.
Take it easy and listen to your body. I knew when I had a headache or swollen glands that I had overdone it and would have to get back in bed.

I tell patients no extreme exercise for six to eight weeks. Walking, cycling, light swimming only. No contact sports, weights or vigorous exercise (aerobics, Zumba, spinning).
