So... the dude who sent me roses and asked me out for after my busy season at work (late October)? He's going to be here on business the weekend after next (he doesn't live in my area) and asked if I'd be interested in getting together at this point. Things have been calming down at work and I think I can swing it. (And if the phone rings, well, he's in a similar position and understands.)
Anyway, being the socially inept creature that I am, I have a very pressing question...
What the heck do I wear?
We're going to be going to dinner and watching the meteor shower afterward... and I'm asking now because I'll only have time to shop this weekend for next weekend.
Help. I am so bad at this stuff. Plus I haven't been on a first date in forever. I couldn't be any more lame if I tried.

I had to pop back in to say I am super excited for this one. I have been waiting for the follow up. You think he would notice if you set up a "nanny cam" maybe with a live feed to SI? You could pretend to film the meteors?

no, but sitting on the grass and the mosquitoes and it can get chilly if the dew is high or if it rained earlier.

Ooh sitting in grass did not occur to me. WB, bring a picnic blanket if that's the plan, no matter what you wear. One cannot have too many bug barriers.

Maxi dress with flats and a sweater?? Covers all the bases.
You can sit on a blanket with a maxi dress, covers a multitude of sins, is comfortable and cute. Then a sweater for any chill in the air!

I second the maxi dress idea. Can be a very sexy, yet casual look. And about the bugs...bug spray smells terrible but if you go to a health food/natural grocery store, they have some bug repellents that wont "repel" other things.
Is it silly that I'm all
about your date??

Okay, I'm only 5'3"... do maxi dresses work for us shorter folk? They always look so long on the rack.
I'm down for bug barriers! I was planning on a blanket, too.
And b4m, I'm sorta
about this, too.

Oh Yes WB,,Maxi dresses work for us shorter women...I am just 5'4" and I wear mine all the time...
If they are just a little too long, you can use one hand to hold the skirt up just a little and show a little leg...
That is always nice...
Hope you have a wonderful time, you deserve it, Dear...

Oooh... how intriguing.
If you don't want to go the maxi dress route, you can do cute jeans with a flirty top that looks good on its own, and then bring a sweater that works with it.
Of course, my last first date was is 1985, so grain of salt and all...

I'm with NIK , although my DD tells me I need to ditch the mom jeans-so take my fashion advice with a grain of salt. My last first date was 2004. Has it really changed that much?
Don't forget to have fun! And report back. Some of us that don't date, live vicariously thru those that do.
