My DD21 broke her wrist and has a cast up to her elbow. I'm looking for helpful suggestions for showering with a cast and any other advice to make these next few weeks easier.

She broke the wrist on her dominant hand which is making things a little more difficult.

Thanks!

My youngest DS broke his wrist when he was 12. For showering, we either taped a trash bag around the cast (we used stretchy self-stick bandage wrap) or wrapped it many times with plastic wrap.

It was his dominant hand as well, he was able to use a computer for his school work and tests instead of writing.

For eating, we cut up his food for him and he used his fork with his nondominant hand since holding silverware was awkward with the cast.

Good luck!!

They actually make cast covers for the shower you can find in a really well stocked pharmacy or a medical supply store.

Or cheaper is hefty bag and duct tape. That's what I tell my patients to do!

Shampooing long hair with one arm is near to impossible. Offer to help her with this task if you can or pay for a few visits to the salon for just a hair washing.

Put all of her shampoos/conditioner/body wash in pump bottles so she doesn't have to deal with lifting a bottle. You may want to invest in a bunch of claw hair clips. I relied on hair clips when I hurt my hand a year ago and couldn't put my hair in a ponytail on my own.

I don't have advice, but am sending hugs, healing mojo, and good thoughts.

Thanks for all the responses.

Putting the shampoo/conditioner/body was in pump bottles is a great idea. I also think I may treat her to a couple of salon shampoos.

She commutes to a local state university which starts in two weeks. She cannot drive, so I will be driving her back and forth to classes. Let's hope this thing heals fast!!
