So I was on OLD and met someone interesting. We have been emailing for a week and a half, and decided we would meet tomorrow around 7. He is a bit conservative, me liberal and we've been discussing politics etc...

I picked a great place to meet very public and it is basically pay regular price, pay forward, or volunteer your time ( great concept ) and very casual

So Any advise on a first meeting would be very helpful...

I was a basket case on my first date. Subsequent ones were a piece of cake.

Have a friend text you about a 1/2 hour in, in case you need an excuse to get out. Also a trip to the bathroom can be an opportunity to send an SOS if needed. Do NOT, EVER, leave your drink unattended or accept a drink you didn't order. But you probably know that Have fun!

Just remember that this is a "fun evening out" - not a job interview for a relationship.

My DD's gave me this advice:

1) Is this someone with whom you could be friends?

2) Is this someone you would care to know better?

That's all you need to establish this time around.

Good luck, and have FUN!

Stay in touch with your senses and feelings during the date. Don't make it a long date even if you like each other. Casual conversation, nothing heavy. Just see if you want to have another date, don't wonder about a relationship w him. Enjoy yourself. Leave your phone in your purse!

Don't discuss politics

Keep it light (conversation) and wear a little perfume behind the ears so if you choose to hug him good bye, he can smell your light scent.

Report back to us

Have lots of fun!!!

Thank you Jo2love! Know if you could go with me tonight and be a bug in my ear if I should mispronounce or say anything foolish ... That would be very helpful!

Trebclef thank you and your DD's Very helpful ... Actually know but forgot about the drink part Thank you!!

Exit: Chanel #5 "just a dab will do ya" Thank you because I might have used the whole bottle ...

I haven't slept but maybe three or four hours but I hope to come home and nap before tonight. I have a meeting with my supervisor this morning and I hope that I can leave a bit early today ... I know discussing politics is not recommended in fact since we have discussed it some in one of his last emails last night he said, I don't know why you want to meet a "conservative man" I responded: " I am looking forward to meeting you as there is more to a person then politics." He agreed!

Should be interesting because the place we are going to is very open-minded liberal, in a sense, which will tell me a great deal about him in that atmosphere ...

I ran out last night to go shopping and the first sales person I ran into I told her the situation and with in five minutes I had four sales clerks helping me find the perfect items, giving me advice for the date ... It was so much fun and made me feel very at ease with the situation instead allowing the X's berating run through me head ...

Keep the advise coming I greatly appreciate it!

I just got home ...

All was going okay, good conversation about horses, life in general, differing views regarding politics ... until the last ten minutes.

He started asking me if I knew about this "new" curriculum that is to be implemented nationwide that *Blank* is starting where the kids are going to be monitored with cameras to read their eye movements and wear bracelets to detect their heart rates while in class to learn how their parents vote, what religion they are, how their treated at home .... taking all the "classic books like the Hobit off the reading lists" And the end goal is to teach all our children different levels of Communism.

I kept waiting for him to say that alien's were then going to be teaching the classes... At this point I just had to shake his hand tell him good night.

I laughed all the way home I kept thinking about the "cheesy nut man!"

But the best thing about the whole night ... The "first date thing" is over ...

That would be a turn off! But good for you for getting a chuckle and a good story out of it and letting it go. You have a wonderful open and light-hearted attitude about dating and I have a feeling it will serve you well.

I have discovered many people I know and respect have wild conspiracy theories on all ends of the political spectrum. I've been watching fun tv series on netflix and many of them are based on a hypothetical conspiracy no more far out than those friends and acquaintances are reading about. TV shows like The Event are like what David Icke writes about. Then there's the show, Jericho, and Revolution. It's a huge part of our culture these days.
