Northern Cal - first rain of the season

After a long hot dry summer as usual it has been raining here in the foothills east of Chico for the last 8 hours. A real soak-in-the-ground rain. It feels so good. The ground was so dry it crunched like styrofoam when you walked on it and the danger of wildfires was huge.

I am breathing a sigh of relief for this welcome change of season.

Still no 'like' button??

It's so nice to be back in an area that gets regular rain. I'm sure I'll change my tune in a few months but I'm liking it now.

It rained all the way over to the eastern Sierras. Supposed to snow at the lake tonight. Feeling kind of bad for the iron man folks! Lol

People in the SF Bay Area forget how to drive in rain !! DSS had to drive from San Jose to Palo Alto. It is about 25 min from his house on the 280. He said there was 4 accidents on the side of road !

I think all those months w/o rain allows oil to accumulate on the road, and then it gets slick w rain. And yes, people don't slow down in the Bay Area for rain.

SAZ, I grew up in NY State, lived in New England and the Catskills before California and so I'm used to rain in the summer and all those huge lush deciduous leaved trees. I even liked the cold northeastern winters, it's just the late springs that are hard. Winter seemed to go so long and when the warm and green finally came everyone was ecstatic.

The first rain here is like that feeling for spring back east to me.

I'm SO HAPPY! I love the smell of wet dirt after the summer dust!

I'm going to go volunteer to do some trail maintenance, and then take my wonder dog for a little mountain bike ride.

NOTHING BETTER!

Unlike roads, the first rain makes the trails super TACKY!

Love me some nice traction on my bike ride through the redwoods. Can you say ZOOM!?

I love the first rain of the season. It rained hard down here on the SF coast. DDs and I stayed in all day, lit a fire and candles and watched repeats of Bones and Criminal Minds. Wonderful day.

Same here in the Pacific NW. First rains are lovely, everything was pretty parched.

I love that it clears up for the farmer's markets though.
