For those of you who were following my love life, I just wanted to pop in and say that it's still going fine!
He is very considerate and treats me like a queen. He insists on dropping me off right at the door when it rains, then he will go park the car. He makes tea for me when I don't feel well. We got along great on our 5000+ mile road trip this summer, even during our fender bender accident on an interstate!
We go to the gym together, which I really really like! No other man has ever been willing to go to the gym with me. We are going through his younger brother's slow fade from cancer together and will be taking our 3rd trip to see him since early July. He just hands me the phone so I can coordinate travel arrangements with his sister. He (my SO) has had a surprise hospitalization and we stayed in harmony during that.
In other words, we have been through several BIG stresses/strains since he first told me he had feelings for me eight months ago! And we just grow closer and closer.
I know that our beginning, not too long after my husband died, was worrisome to some here. Especially since my SO was "only" separated (had been for well over a year). And it worried some that he appeared to be courting/"grooming" me before my husband died. What I have found so far is that he does not seem to be the cold, calculating type. I've known him now for over two years (first as only neighbors and friends). He is what he says he is and does what he says he will do.
We still share a commitment to help our elderly neighbors as much as we possibly can. We give rides, he looks at cars for folk, we help a friend by paying for vet care for her dog, etc. He volunteers with the state department of emergency management and just completed a course with county where he got to use the jaws of life, learned search and rescue technique, got to use a fire hose, etc.
My message: trust your gut. Mine said and still says that he's a truly good guy.....even though there were a few yellow flags. Besides....everybody likes a happy story around here!
