A year after the A ended BW has asked me to get std tests. I understand why. How do I do this? Do I just go to a doctor and say give me std tests? Do I ask for particular kinds? By the way, I have no symptoms. What's involved in the tests?

I had a good relationship with my doctor and told him the circumstances and asked him to test me for everything. He was very neutral and nonjudgmental about it. It sucked and I was mortified, but I did it.

It was over 6 years ago but I don't remember exactly what was involved, sorry. It's slow on the weekends but maybe somebody will come around soon with more specifics for you.

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

Just ask your doctor what he or she suggests.

It is good you are doing this.

Common tests are HIV, hepatitis, syphillis via blood draw.

For men, I believe a urethral swab is done for chlamydia and gonorrhea.

Herpes is a tough one because a lot of people are positive for the antibodies in the blood, which doesn't mean you have the active disease. Ask your doc about this one.

Very straightforward process and my doctor didn't blink an eye (I get the feeling more couples are doing this proactively at the start of relationships as well). As long as you're not showing active symptoms, guys can get tested for everything with just a blood test. Unlike woman, where some STDS can hide, men apparently have obvious symptoms, e.g. gonorrhea, otherwise it's all in the blood. Good luck.
