I work in an open office environment so on a typical day I overhear dozens of conversations. The conversations range from the typical work talk to a mother on the phone with her child's school. I have never had any issues with this except for the volume level of the talker, but today I triggered.

A male coworker was on the phone trying to set up a meeting...a work meeting...but the words that he used made it sound like he was setting up a tryst. Who knew that phrases like "let's find an empty room" and "how does 2 o'clock work for you" would make my heart jump.

Does 'out of the blue' triggers happen often?

I work in an environment where we often have clients from well known companies come in. This latest project has been ongoing for over a year and is nearing completion, up to this point the clients coming in were all men. Last week a young woman came in for a tour, and the main man in charge was showing her around. Both are in relationships, I know this because that is one of the things they chose to discuss when they stopped in front of my work station. I was not involved in their conversation, but couldn't help but notice that body language wise it looked like they were flirting. Maybe they didn't even realize it. She is getting married this summer and he has a girlfriend, when they started talking about their SO's the giggles seemed to calm down. It was a very odd interaction to witness. Surprisingly it didn't trigger me though, in fact I had a hard time suppressing my own eye rolls.
