I dated a very nice guy for about 3 years. I still like him as a friend. He's a great friend and a lousy boyfriend. I'm the one who ended it. One of the reasons was that I felt that for about a year he wasn't all that interested in me but was taking advantage of what he liked about our relationship. I fed him all the time. And he is by his own admission very cheap so free food is something he relishes. We didn't live together, but he'd eat dinner at my house probably 4 or 5 times a week. A lot of times he'd invite his friends to my house at the last minute. I'm a good cook and actually owned my own gourmet shop and catering company at one point in my life, so he and his friends got fed very well. He's wasn't entirely to blame. I take my share of responsibility for it too. I also came to know that he was already seeing his next girlfriend before I ended it with him.
Well he's an electrician and is particularly good at working on old homes. Mine is from the 1840s. So two months ago I hired him to rewire my front porch from knob and tube to something that will actually meet code. He finally showed up two weeks ago for a half a day and then never showed up again. After several messages unanswered he finally showed up yesterday and said he would be there today and he is.
What makes this funny to me is that I am having dinner guests tonight. So my dining room table is beautifully set with china and silver and I have non parishable components of what I am making for dinner tonight all staged in my perfectly clean kitchen so I can put dinner together after work. I can't help but wonder if he's thinking "Damn! I remember this!"

I bet he will try to get an invite to dinner.
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off

He did try. He was still there when I got home from work and started cooking. He hung out in my kitchen as long as he could.
