Okay, so this is my personal opinion and you all can tell me to sit and spin and that will be fine.

I just don't want to do the typical 'bookclub' books.

The things that everyone else is reading.

I hate following the grain and feeling like a sheep.

This is, of course, why I have never been able to enjoy a lot of bookclubs in person.

I think I'll wait to see what book is chosen and then participate or not,,, if that is acceptable to the rest of you.

Truly, I'm not trying to be a bitchy problem but I'm just being honest about my feelings.

No worries, you should do as you feel. No right or wrong way, I believe people may be a little fed up with Oprah books and twilight series. Everyone is just trying to come up with different volume. Please, if you do not feel like participating in the book list. You may just want to vote. If you decide you do not want to participate at all, please keep us informed on some material you're reading. No more tiptoeing anymore!!

I'd like to vote or just read what another suggests. I'm in a rut this summer finding books to read and I've got a lot going on so I wouldn't even know where to start with suggestions.

But I'd love to be in on the club

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

I would go for P&P of those listed.

Perhaps Persuasion instead, since it's not quite so widely read.

Jane Austen is among the set of authors that I can read over and over.

How about a book club with a couple of different tracks running at the same time? But if you join one you have to join them all, so hard scifi track can't avoid romance track and vice versa. =)

I'm not sure what "typical book group" books are! I read almost all genres, except romance and modern vampire books. I'll take Anne Rice's vampires any day of the week. Guess I'm showing my age.

I find some books I put down and need to discuss. Those are the types of books I think belong in book groups.

I see "The Time Traveler's Wife" has been mentioned. I recently read her new book, "Her Fearful Symmetry" and I have no idea how it ended--I would love to have a group discussion about it.

Barbara Kingsolver has a new book out, which was really interesting called "The Lacuna," which I think would be a good book.

This might not be a bad idea and would be a good experiment as well as being fun.

I like the idea of picking a different genre each time.

It'd probably expand my list of 'usual suspects' and introduce us to authors we might never have encountered left to our own devices!

I like this idea. I've read from all of the different genres but tend to stick to a couple. I rented the movie Shutter Island and have been wanting to read it. I think all the twists and turns would be interesting. And I like the idea that if you join you can't skip a genre, you have to try something outside your comfort zone. Now this could be the makings of an awesome book club.

Most Oprah books bore me to tears, but there are occasional exceptions.

I just found out one of my favorite books "Never Let Me Go" has been made into a movie that will be out in September. Yay!

I'm currently reading The Firey Cross in the Outlander series, and I just started The Imperfectionists. It's the kind of book I wouldn't normally have read, but if Christopher Buckley likes it I'm willing to give it a try!

I remember the Secret Life of Bees discussion. MMMM good times.

I read The Time Traveler's Wife when it came out, and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn when I was in high school. Joy in the Morning was another one.

I'm with you, NA, if ya'll pick a book I can read I'll join in. If you pick the Book Thief, well, no way.

Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel

Gaby, read this book and the sequels up to the last one (haven't read that one yet) and thought all of them were page turners. She has a way of putting you in the story IMO. The first of the series I read was actually the second in the series then I saw "By the author of..." and got that one to read.

As for the book club count me in as I'm a very avid reader and could most definitely read one book a month. In fact just over the last few days I've read three (good thing I gave myself a long weekend ) by Terry Pratchett. (Thanks BIL ).

I've already got a few suggestions but I'll keep those to myself until when or if we decide to make this "formal".

This is great so many ideas, it almost like where do we start? Remember keep coming up with these titles so we can vote tomorrow. How do people feel about reading from gentres.. I've read the sequels as well and agree that they are page turners. I havent read her second series though. I'll have to go look for it!

my moms book club is reading alice something or other, name escapes me right now, about the woman with alzheimers, but she keeps calling me nightly crying about it, so i dont' think i wanna read it

One of my favorite threads over on the Kindleboards is the one where people admit to the highly regarded books that for them were very overrated.

It's funny how your overrated might be my favorite and the opposite, too.

I couldn't finish The Book Thief. I just couldn't make myself care about the characters.

I can't wait!
