My aunt rescues them ever since the "fad" of them 20 yrs ago. They start off small, they don't end up small and a lot of people really don't like the end result. Sure they are smaller than a regular pig, but they are still big. And I'm sorry, not pretty. Skin prone to dryness and problems. They get into everything and well, they are not cuddly in the least bit.

This is from someone who wanted one VERY much when I was young, until I spent time with my aunts crew.

If you are planning to get a pot bellied pig, be certain you are getting "the real deal." Sometimes unscrupulous sellers will pass off a "regular" piglet as a pot belly and the buyer eventually ends up with more pork than he bargained for!

Because I'm Mother Of The Year, the funniest day of my life was taking DS (age 4) to a pet store. While I was admiring the birds, I heard this ungodly squealing. I turned around to see a fat little piggy running straight for DS, who was frozen in terror! The pig veered off at the last second and ran behind the counter. The look on DS's face was priceless! I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe.

I wish I could take the little guy.

From what I read a long time ago, they used to be small and stay small. Then the "fad" took hold and people were breeding bigger ones and selling them as pot bellied, but they were cross bred and got huge. They would get into people refrigerators, etc... and become a big problem.

I think the original small ones were great, but the whole thing has been ruined by all the breeding.

Friend had one. Larger than I thought it would be, but not full regular pig size. Extremely loud! When it squeeled. EXTREMELY LOUD. Cured me of wanting one and I had wanted one prior to that.
