You should be able to get glucose/ketones (diabetic) pee-sticks over the counter at a drugstore.

As for the 'Norm'!! call - you know what? The person who cares MOST in the world about your kid is.......YOU!! Who gives a SHIT if you look crazy over bringing your kid in??

The way I look at it - if there is even a QUESTION about whether to bring the kid in or not, then the correct answer is: BRING THEM IN!!!!!!!!!

With the exception of 1 (yes - O.N.E.) time, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I have had my 'spidey senses' going off about my kids I have brought them in and (drum roll please) I WAS RIGHT. We're talking 3 (count 'em 3) boys (yes, that's right, I said BOYS) that are now teenagers - so we're talking easily over 100 visits - and EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. except ONCE: I WAS RIGHT - there was SOMETHING wrong.

The moral of the story is NOT that I'm a genius ( ), it's that YOU know your kid best.

Get the OTC sticks, and if you're still concerned CHECK IT OUT WITH THE DOC. Who cares if you look stupid or paranoid. We're talking about YOUR KID. YOU are the best one to look out for them.

If you bring cookies during the holidays, they will remember your real name.

Just another story to reassure you (since you're seeing the doc): my eldest did the same thing several years ago. He was hardly eating and had to urinate all the time. His teacher even noticed it and called me. We took him to the doctor to rule out a UTI, then just kept an eye on it since they didn't feel that it warranted testing for diabetes at that point. I don't know what it was, but it went away. Now, he eats like a horse (and is super skinny... why can't that happen to me?)!

Hang in there, mama. My children enjoy freaking me out regularly over health issues as well. (((Jrazz)))

Don't ever feel bad to keep bringing yr kid to the doc. They might not want to see you if you are rude and obnoxious (I doubt you are!), and even if you are, that won't affect how they treat your kid.

My kid has serious health issues. My spidey senses weren't always right about *what* was wrong, but they have always been right that *something* was wrong, and hauling him in to the peds office meant he got diagnosed at an early stage, preventing worse symptoms and outcomes. So go with your gut, mama razz!

Hoping your little one is doing better, and a big hug to you too,

Thanks everyone. She's been doing great this weekend. Her grandmother made a surprise appearance and they got to pal around which was nice. Liquid intake seems to be balancing on its own.

Siiiigh. This is not easy, but my little muffin is SO worth the heartache.
