Oh, I think the situation would be entirely feasible if we had that "relationship foundation" already in place. This deployment will force us to get to know each other in a very different way. It will be a real test of communication.
Better…I have no idea how this happened. None. I just know I thought his photo was super cute, but when I read his profile, I felt a little "pull". I could tell there was some depth to him.
On the flip side, he isn't a completely superficial guy either. After all, I contacted him without a photo, commented on something we had in common in his profile (both grad students), and he replied without asking for a photo. I offered and sent him photos in the second email. He asked me out quickly after that.
I wish I could tell all you SI's out there what the "trick" was, but I think it was more just pure. blind. luck. I mean, this has taken TWO YEARS, and there are times that I feel like fate is fucking with me…that I finally meet a good man (and I am in a great place in life)….and he is leaving!
**for me** all I know is that I refused to settle for other guys I dated. If it didn't feel right, I ended it. If they treated me poorly, I ended it. I wanted myself OPEN to meeting a good guy and wasn't willing to settle on anything less.
I'm trying to not think too much about the future and just keep it in the NOW.
If we make it into the deployment, I'll will be posting for some helpful tips for those that have survived a LDR.
