Does he supervise the others that he invites? If not, then that might be the difference.

Yes, that could be it. Just need to not take it personally I guess. Not used to be excluded due to job title.
Btw the other asst. is always invited to her boss' events that include other co-workers.
Also my other supervisor invited me to her wedding.
