Put in an application for a place that will probably rule out downtown as a commute destination but fits all my other criteria. Basically it comes down to, pick any two:

* Good schools

* Good price

* Ideal location

Fortunately there are plenty of jobs in my field that are not downtown. I still have another application in, in another place that's in a better location, but that one is taking forever to process.

So after 15 days I believe I have finally found a place! Max rush hour commute that I might be subjected to is 30 minutes, which is higher than I wanted but not the end of the world, and it's a nice central location near a good school, recent (90s) construction, has a washer/dryer, and I like the look of the immediate area. Assuming I don't change my mind in the next day, I'll be moving in Saturday morning. With my entire carload of stuff, ha.

I took possession today. Seems like a nice place so far.

I still find it bizarre, being from high desert, that the vast majority of places here don't have a/c (but they don't really need it much).

The apartment complex I'm at says if I do opt to get A/C, they'll be happy to install a window unit for me if I need help.

I moved in and my bed is set up, and even more importantly my Internet seems to work, and my desktop computer is working, so I can watch movies to wind down at night again (I use a TV for the monitor).. nicer with a couch and a desk of course, but you know, one thing at a time..

Also I'm meeting a couple friends of a close friend of mine from the city I moved from who live within like 3 or so miles from me tomorrow for lunch. They are married to each other and have two young kids.

Plus it seems that there's a couple people from SI who live in the area who I can meet, at least one of which has kids.

Thank you. :)

I purchased a ticket for my daughter to come here in about 3 and a half weeks, just now.
