Check out a lawyer and see if you can go after him for "alienation of affection" and bring the letters....you have a smoking gun.
If your state allows such civil action you could get a few bucks out of this guy.
It may be that adultery is illegal in your state...again you have a smoking gun that could get OM in a lot of trouble in some states.

Once both spouses just stop caring...anything can happen and usually does.

I found out after receiving an ‘anonymous’ letter - my wife believes this was the OM who sent it. He then sent the subsequent letter with all the detail. I think his communications have malicious intent. I know who he is, an ex work colleague from the job she had when she was diagnosed.
These anonymous letters have the ring of being a red herring. Is OM married? Maybe a wife or GF caught him and gave him ultimatums. It would be to your advantage to find out this info.
