I just picked it up again last night. Am currently reading Lion in the Valley.
The funny thing about Amelia is that the things she "thinks" about her husband are some of the same things I think about mine!
She cracks me up...

lord_v is on book four. I hope he sticks it out until Sethos takes off and Ramses grows up.
I'm re-reading it to stay on track with him.
I occasionally hear him hoot out loud while reading it, and that's unusual.
It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls he’d known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

I think what is so refreshing about the Amelia Peabody series is that the author (it's funny because I really do think of Amelia when I say "author") is just so funny and clever and it all is so refined. No use stooping to crudeness or vulgarity...kind of the reason why I always appreciated Ellen D when she was a comedian. I believe you have to be SMARTER when you don't resort to such.
And this is really off topic, but I tell little punky (who is 16) THAT is the reason that she shouldn't listen to rap or most R & B. The lyrics are just bordering on bad pornography--and she's smarter than that.
