I have been a Psychologist in Scottsdale since 1982. I specialize in Couples work, with a special emphasis on fidelity issues. I run three men''s groups weekly and also run a Survivor''s group for the spouses. I offer 8 day intensives and weekend interventions in addition to long-term treatment. Individual work typical occurs weekly for about 90 days. Here we are examining the client''s history for clues as to the "why." Group therapy occurs immediately and continues for the length of treatment, which varies according to the problem. Couples'' therapy takes place throughout the length of treatment, to process the pain and also address "regular" marriage issues (once the trauma of betrayal has been adequately addressed.

An AFFAIR doesn''t mean it has to be over. How do I know this? I work as an affair recovery specialist, serving as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Burbank. I work almost exclusively with adults with significant relationship problems. Dealing with the aftermath of affairs is my specialty. I''ve written three books on this subject: "Blindsided by His Betrayal", "Fool Me Once: Should I Take Back My Cheating Husband?" and "After A Good Man Cheats: How to Rebuild Trust & Intimacy with Your Wife." FOR BETRAYED SPOUSES: I help betrayed spouse like you determine if the person who has betrayed you should be trusted or not. I can help you decide if the relationship itself is worth saving, even if the unfaithful spouse seems sincerely repentant. FOR THE WAYWARD SPOUSE: I know that you are doing your best to regain your spouse''s trust, but no matter what you do, you seem to make it worse. I will not sit in judgement of you. I''ll help you rebuild

Discovering an affair or other betrayal can be one of the most shocking and distressing events a person can experience. There are many ways to be unfaithful-sexual or emotional intimacy with someone other than your partner, hiding money or other financial secrets, gambling, shopping, or other addictive habits that are not disclosed. Having a quiet, confidential space to clarify your thoughts, process your emotions, and regain a sense of equilibrium can be a critical component in your healing process. There is a great deal of information available which can be helpful or overwhelming. When you''re off balance it can be very difficult to know what to believe or what to do next. I can help you with important decisions about staying together or breaking up, how to rebuild your relationship or "move on" with your own life.

As an experienced psychologist and marriage counselor, I have treated varied and sometimes difficult problems faced by individuals, couples, and families. A careful assessment is made at the beginning of therapy and together we develop an individualized and specific plan which combines direction, compassion, and a belief in our ability to make positive changes. In my work with couples, I generally use a combination of emotion-focused therapy and behavioral change practices. Recovering from infidelity can be a difficult process that requires understanding and treating the underlying factors causing the infidelity. Solid recovery from infidelity also addresses the trauma experienced by the betrayed partner. I am comfortable working with people in recovery from addictions, including sex addiction. I have experience working with couples and individuals who find themselves in this difficult situation, and I have helped many find a way back from the shattering pain of betrayal to feel whole again.

Dr. Robbins is the Emergency Room Marital Therapist. What does that mean? Dr. Robbins specializes in bringing couples back from the brink of divorce. The type of therapy needed for those who are seriously considering divorce is very different from your typical marital therapy. It''s direct. It''s concise. It''s active. Having worked with couples for over 30 years, he is well versed with the challenges of changing the course of a wayward marriage. Often, finances are a part of the problem, if not at the core of the problem. In fact, poor financial management has been deemed as the number one cause of divorce by many divorce studies. As a financial advisor, he brings his expertise to these challenges as well. Often, Dr. Robbins is the person couples go to when "all other things have failed." In addition, Dr. Robbins specializes in working with parents of out-of-control children and teens.

I am a Certified EFT Couples Therapist. EFT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) helps identify the negative patterns of interaction that hijack your relationship and result in emotional distance, isolation and feelings of hopelessness and loss. EFT teaches couples in distress how to identify and replace these negative ways of interaction with healthier, positive patterns that result in closeness, emotional safety, understanding and support. Instead of turning away from each other in times of crisis, couples learn how to turn toward each other for nurturing, reassurance, compassion and love.

In working with couples I work on not just the particular dissagreements there are but also the ability of both couples to appreciate, soothe, and love each other. The way that people relate to each other, especially in relation to showing appreciation, caring and soothing often times has more impact on the outcome of a conflict than any particular listening skill or communication technique.

When you are flooded with emotions, it becomes difficult to think clearly and express the overwhelming hurt and pain you are experiencing in a way that your partner can hear it. In order to heal after infidelity, it''s important to express these feelings in a safe and secure environment. For couples who wish to save their relationship, even after the devastation of an affair, there is a long and oftentimes treacherous road to overcoming infidelity. Cheating in relationships is, unfortunately, a widespread problem in our culture. Miami is a city with a unique multicultural and fast paced lifestyle, where much emphasis is placed on affluence, beauty and sexuality. The allure of these temptations can lead to difficult predicaments for certain couples, married or not. For some, a strong commitment and hard work are required to protect a relationship and maintain a healthy and fulfilling marriage or union.

People usually seek my services when they realize that they are not happy living the way they have been living, and are motivated to make a change. A personal change, an interpersonal change. Since we do not live alone in the world, the way we behave affects everyone who''s in contact with us: spouses, children, friends, relatives, associates, but mostly, ourselves. If we choose to make a change, that will also affect all those other relationships we are in. I mostly work with people who are seeking a new way of living, and a new way of relating to others. They want to enjoy themselves and enjoy their relationships.

I believe deeply that marriage is a gift that provides the best type of relationship for a couple to enjoy and experience the benefits of physical, emotional, and spiritual connection and care-giving. I further believe that most marital difficulties are the result of present day stressors and early-life hurts and disappointments that disrupt a couple''s ability to maintain connection and show care for one another. In treatment, I help couples re-prioritize their relationship, enhance their ability to validate each other, and develop new ways to play and connect as a couple. I look forward to helping you work through this time of struggle in your relationship.

In my 19 years of practice I have helped couples and families overcome a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, anger problems and alcohol/drug addictions using traditional (object relations therapy, couples counseling, parenting training, and family psychotherapy) and non-traditional (Eastern philosophy and meditation, art therapy, play therapy, and psychodrama) methods. I believe that all families have the ability to help themselves, but sometimes due to overwhelming life circumstances, hardships, and crises they become "stuck." My role as a therapist is to help them to mobilize their own resources, tap into their inner strenghths, and activate their own self healing processes. This can be accomplished by using individual, couples, family, and/or group therapies, based on specific treatment needs. I am also a Maryland DHMH approved supervisor and am offering clinical supervision to recent MSW graduates at reasonable rates!

For many of us relationships serve as the very foundation of our lives. You build your home, your daily routine, your parenting and your very identity around your relationship. Relationships, even unhappy ones, give your life a sense of predictability and meaning. An affair can rob both of you of that sense of certainty. All of a sudden, all that seemed true is thrown into question. I''ve spent 25 plus years studying and developing a systematic approach to help you recover from an affair the right way. My program can help you avoid all the pitfalls that have led others to divorce or stay in an unhappy marriage. My program can be broken down into 3 stages: 1)Getting through the immediate shock and trauma of the affair to provide a foundation for healing 2) Working together to understand the affair, what it was about, what caused it and what you need to do to begin to rebuild your relationship. 3) Rebuilding your relationship You''ll find all sorts of helpful info on my web

As I work with my clients to improve one aspect, the other is also improved, and this is exciting to witness.

Depressed, anxious, problems in a relationship. These are some of the issues that people bring into therapy. As I see it, therapy needs to provide a non-judgmental, accepting and supportive space to work on the problems one faces. I strive to treat each person as a unique individual, helping them to direct the treatment that will move them beyond the problems that they are now facing to a life that is hopefully more fulfilling and less painful. It is my aim to help each individual to deal with the issues that are affecting them and causing them the emotional pain that has lead them to seek psychotherapy. I seek to truly listen to each person, to deal with them with respect and work with them as the unique individual that they are. No two people are the same and I do not provide a cookie cutter approach to the work that I do. Each person has his or her own needs, pains, strengths and issues that need addressing.

I never cease to be humbled by the power and resilience that couples have to heal. Beneath the anger, frustration and hurt - there is the unique bond the brought you together. Healing and strengthening this bond allows couples to resolve bitter conflict and create the closeness and intimacy that often gets lost when people get "stuck" in negative communication, long term conflict or stress, lack of physical intimacy, even infidelity or trauma.

Infidelity harms relationships. Some betrayals are more damaging than others. They can come in many forms: unilateral decisions, verbal or physical abuse, substance abuse, emotional and/or physical affair(s). Whatever the trauma, however profound, I have found relationships often (not always) can survive, heal and even grow, provided each person is willing to do difficult and often arduous emotional work. This work requires a safe therapeutic environment in which the humanity of each person is supported while each takes responsibility for any part they played in the gone-wrongness in the relationship and for striving to make things better. Over the years some of the most meaningful and satisfying therapy experiences have come working with coupes who, with deep honesty, addressed the issues which infidelity surfaces. The work begins with an initial session with the couple to explore the key issues, but more importantly, to come to a decision about whether we feel comfortable working together.

Sometimes the circumstances in life are too much to handle without some help. The life events might be overwhelming or mental health might be compromised due to physiology. Working in psychiatry for over thirty years has given me a respect for many different modalities. There is not a one size fits all approach to healing. Together, we will look at the issues and find your path. My approach is eclectic. We will explore the options and work together to find the appropriate treatment. If needed, a referral to a practitioner who can help will be recommended. I have experience with all age groups, couples and families.

A spouse''s unfaithfulness is the most painful experience that can be inflicted in marriage. The life you once thought you lived and the person you once knew are changed forever, in your mind. Few marital problems cause such devastation as infidelity. Money worries, health issues and disagreements between two people can put a strain on the marriage but infidelity will crack and rock the foundation of marriage itself. Divorce need not be your only answer to healing. If you and your spouse have the will and commitment in wanting your marriage to work, I can help you! However it is a time for getting answers to the following questions: How did this happen to me? How do I protect myself, our children? Do we try to save our marriage? How can I ever trust him/her again? When will I stop feeling as I do? When will I know it is over? Will I ever forgive him/her? I have worked with all kinds of couples, experiencing betrayal. Make no decisions right now, other than calling me. I can help!
