I just finished Deep Survival, Proust Was a Neuroscientist, and Confections of a Closet Master Baker. I recommend all three, but I was most impressed with Proust was a Neuroscientist. It discusses several instances of artists with scientific theories that later were proven to be true.
I just started reading Isabel Allende's Ines of My Soul.

The Reader
It's a different type of book I usually read. It is interesting in a different kind of way.

Just finished Patricia Cornwell's new book "Port Mortuary" and it was her best yet in my opinion. Delved into Kay Scarpetta's past more and her insecurities, etc. and the story had some pretty wild twists and turns too.
Just hit the library to find a new book and got "How to Be An American Housewife" about a Japanese girl who marries an American GI & comes to America. Only in first pages - seems good tho so far.

Read the sample of Keith Richard's 'Life' and found it entertaining. Not sure I want to buy it and read the rest tho.
I read 'He just not that into you.' which is really short and can be read in an hour.
I'm reading, 'Caw of the Wild' about a woman who makes friends with wild crows.

Today I'm reading Carl Hiaasen's "Native Tongue."
I love Hiaasen, but I often stay up late when I'm reading his books. I get all caught up in the wild and hilarious antics of his bizarre characters.
I'll probably finish this today (started last night), and go on to read Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." I've seen a zillion different versions; this year I thought I'd read the original for Christmas.

Took back my Hiaasen and checked out some more books. Right now I'm reading The Harper's Quine, by Pat McIntosh, who is a new author to me. This is the first in a series of mysteries which are set in 1490s Glasgow. So far, so good.

I've been reading: The Brain that Changes Itself, fascinating book on brain plasticity for layman. Really good read if you are involved with Special needs kids or teaching, or know someone who has had a stroke... or think the human mind is just plain old amazing...
Next up - The Towers of Midnight Wheel of Time Book 13.

Just finished Ian McEwan's Enduring Love. Very good read.
I just started Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. It's excellent so far. Not as dark as The Corrections, from what I can tell and the characters nearly as irredeemable. 
She packed up her potential and all she had learned and headed out to change a few things.

I'm reading a friggin great historical novel called The Pirate Devlin, by Mark Keating.
Very exciting action, and all the typical pirate stuff, while being historically accurate. It has a cinematic feel to it.

Just finished Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. The ending isn't profound, but it'll leave me thinking for a few days at least.
I was browsing through second-hand books the other day and came across Essays in Love by Alain de Botton. That's what I'm starting tonight.

I loved Never Let Me Go. It had me thinking about it for weeks. I'd like to see the movie they released last fall, but it's so "indie" that it didn't show at a theater near me.
Now I'm reading Talking to Girls About Duran Duran, a coming of age in the '80s memoir, and next up is I Remember Nothing (Nora Ephron).
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Of course it helps to know you *have* enemies.
