I'd recommend a percolator from Cuisinart. In Canada I think they retail for $60-70.
Not only do you get the nostalgia of having a percolator, but the top of the lid is clear so you can see the water/coffee each time it spouts. It's like watching your new front-loading washer (and anyone who's gotten a new front-loading washer I'm sure has spend their fair amount of time sitting in front of it just a little mesmerized).
But in all honestly, my percolator makes the "smoothest" cup of coffee I can find. Much better than Tims, Second Cup, or Starbucks.

I'd have to second Meta for Krups. If you like strong or full-bodied coffee, nothing brews better tasting coffee than Krups. That's why I can't use a Bunn - brews so darn fast, the coffee isn't strong enough for me.
Also, Capresso makes wonderful coffee as well. Capresso machines are more expensive, but outstanding flavor; probably tops the Krups IMO.
But, you won't go wrong with either, IMO. I love strong coffee, so my recommendations are biased toward strong, but not bitter, brews.
