After the lively discussion on the Nook vs. the Kindle, I thought I'd share a website called "Project Gutenberg" that I use frequently.

The web address is:

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

For those interested, its a site that offers more than 30,000 FREE ebooks.

The books downloaded on this site can be read using your PC, Nook, Kindle, iPad, Kindle, Sony Reader, and other portable devices.

Their ebooks can be downloaded in a variety of formats including ePub, Mobipocket, HTML, and simple text.

I just thought I'd share with my fellow bookworms!

ETA: Mods, if this type of linking of sites is off limits, please delete my post and accept my apology!

I frequently read/refer to classic literature, and PG has been my go-to source for years. I love it! On my phone I currently have a few books, including all of the Sherlock Holmes collections by Doyle. I have hard-bound copies on my shelf, but I carry it on my phone as well for those times I'm stuck somewhere and need to NOT dwell on the waiting.

I absolutely LOVE that site!

I visit the site at least once a week just to browse and drool, lol.

I too love classic literature...hell...I love reading PERIOD!

My hubby recently bought a nook for me, so you know I'm loading that puppy up with as many books as it'll hold. Project Gutenberg was my first stop!

In the same vein, if you want free e-books, you really should be checking out manybooks.net.

You name the device, they've converted it into that format, and they often have contemporary stuff long before PG gets it converted.

Cool.

I've developed something of an e-mail friendship with the guy who developed that site after he approached me about converting/hosting some of my novels that I'd released under a Creative Commons license, so I try to help him out with plugs when it's appropriate.
