Joining the Decluttering Brigade as of now!!!
I've been involved in a long-term, "must do" project and had what I thought was an immovable, set-in-stone deadline of August 30th, so I've been working to that (since I thought I had no choice).
I just got a letter in the mail and the deadline has been extended to October 30, 2010!!!
Since I have only a couple of days work left to do on the project, this means that I can take a "break" and begin to de-clutter all the areas that have (to my increasing distress) been "growing" while I've been working on this project!!!
So: De-clutter of "extra" table in dining room area commences as soon as I hit "Submit Message" on this post!!!
Yay!!!!!!!!!

Wow, who knew de-cluttering would be so contagious?
Before I simplified, I used to set a timer for 5 minutes and pick one area to work on.
Also would take out a messy drawer and organize it while watching TV.

It is contagious!! I plan to clean out my home office tomorrow and PURGE. Whole house needs to be cleaned and I will be ruthless before I put anything away.
Thanks DCK!

The living room is almost done. Then all that's left is the bedroom. (which is mostly just clearing out dishes and putting away clothes).
I took a break to watch True Blood and have something to eat. I sorted through papers while I watched.
Before I started I had piles of stuff in every corner of my living room. I am so thrilled to have that all gone now!!!
12/18/15 found out my now EX boyfriend was trolling CL for underage girls. From the cops. The fun never stops.

I started on a de-cluttering "plan" about 3 weeks ago and have just the remainder of stuff left in my garage to get rid of...
The "flylady" website has a few good tips for routine maintenance. I liked her "swipe and swoosh" and "Shine your sink" ideas. They are easy to keep up and really keep the house looking nice with minimal effort.

Woo! I'm almost done. All that's left is to vaccuum and mop the floors. And a little bit of filing. I think I will do that stuff tomorrow.
OMG I am so exhausted. But it looks GREAT in here.
And it just feels better not being all cluttery.
I can NOT go that long again between 'stuff purges'.

Doing an enforced de-cluttering here... and it's not my stuff! Sis-in-law passed in February (metasticized cervical cancer) & we are renting the house for Sept 15th. FWH is executor and the inheritor is a cousin in the UK so until their application to immigrate is accepted we (mainly me right now) are emptying/cleaning...
Then next week I'll start a major purge at our house!
25+ yrs of stuff, not as bad as what you see on "The Hoarders" but closets were full-to-overflowing, is a nightmare to go through and much more so when it's not your own! BiL passed in May 2007 (accidental) and S-i-l hadn't dealt with that at all. It was a childless marriage so we are left with a major task.
What do you do with the personal effects of an only child with elderly parents (one in a care home with dementia)???
Suggestions welcome...

You take anything you want, donate what you can, then dumpster the rest.
What worked best for us when my grandmother died was finding a charity that was willing to come to the house with their own truck, and do the loading. My siblings and I cleared out what we wanted first, then let the people from the charity take anything they thought they could use. Once they were done, the dumpster and cleaning crew came in. Of course, we were selling the house so the money for that came out of the estate.
