I agree with you, inconnu, that karma is more like - people you surround yourself with and choices you make, it eventually leads to a certain outcome(s). Not really a big loud karma thing, but maybe just bad choices leading to bad outcomes - some big and some small.

Jaded, that is an interesting point about why the WS will jump when the OP contacts them after NC. I hadn't really thought about it that way but it makes sense.

It's why they have the break down over the person who inspired the worst in them while only validating the best in them. They miss that validation. So often times they try to come back toward us to get it - but it's still always about THEM.

jaded - your post made a lot of sense. A family member had warned me last week to beware - that the emotions he o's showing are probably more about self-pity than remorse.

My mil was destroyed by this because her ex husband cheated and left the state, didn't talk to his kids for years.... She said that she never thought she would have to relive the past

Anyway, she isxthe one my stbxwh reached out to - after a year of being nasty to her because she didn't agree with his choices. She has put aside her own hurt to help him, and

I'm sure all he is thinking about is how he doesn't want to be alone (she is staying at his apartment where she doesn't want to stay rather than staying her. And having extra time with her grandson)

It all just feels disgusting all over again.
