I'm going to have to sit this one out. It's not available for awhile at the library (lots of holds) and I found out today that my dad does indeed have cancer. So I'm not in a good place to read and retain anything.

I'm so sorry to hear this, h4t...big hugs to you.

How big a book is this?

Hi - can anyone participate, or is this a club for the cool kids only?

Whalers - Anyone can participate. The only requirement is that you read the book.

Oops, I still haven't finished the last one.

How about everyone lets us know when they have the book and give an estimate of how long it will take you to get through it

I have the book.

I can get throught it in a couple of weeks.

I ordered it online so I should have it in a couple days. I only have time to read in the evenings, so it will probably take me a couple weeks.

I just have to go upstairs in the bookstore and grab it off the shelf and I'm good to go.

Yeah, I have it on my ebook reader, ready to go!

It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls he’d known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

Ok, I have my copy now. I prefer to read on my ereader and I had to say I was a reviewer to get it. Normal channels do not apply.

Oh, and my library where I work has 2 copies checked out by the same person. Sounds like another local book club might be doing this one, too.

Any idea when the fun will start?

question

wantmore ( member #5939) posted at 2:14 PM on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

I followed an online book club discussion on another board, months after they did the discussion. They divided the book up into natural sections and discussed the sections as they went along. Spoilers were "blacked out", a feature I don't think I've seen on SI.

So, we could start discussing it before everyone has read the whole thing? Some of us read slower/faster than others!

Have we all started reading? If so, should we begin a new thread for Owen Meany?

Estimates to start discussing?

A Prayer for Owen Meany is one of my favorite books of all time.

My sister says it changed her life.

She packed up her potential and all she had learned and headed out to change a few things.
