Which book was that in? I am vaguely remembering it now . . .

I think about that story The Sun Dog a lot - you know, the one where the boy buys the polaroid camera and with every picture he takes, the demon dog gets closer? I may have actually already posted about the Sun Dog on this thread.

This is definitely "The Jaunt" from _Skeleton Crew_ as LovesLaboursLost suggested. The kid stays conscious during teleportation.

'Salem's Lot

I absolutely love it and read it about once a year.

Most of King's books somehow make me feel nostalgic even though he's usually writing about small town America in the 1960s and 70s and I grew up in rural England in the 1980s. He conveys just childhood brilliantly.

IT was probably my favorite Stephen King book of all time. I could not sleep for WEEKS without the lights on.

I also read the Amityville Horror and scared myself silly. I live in NY and drove past the darn house after I read the book.

I can't believe there are 4 pages dedicated to Stephen King works here and only 1 mention of The Tommyknockers....and that 1 mention "hated" it LOL! I loved that story!

It would be so hard to choose but if I was forced too....I'd have to name The Long Walk as one of my fav King (er... Bachman) works for sure.

Other than The Dark Tower series (I'm gonna have to start that someday) I think I've pretty much read everything he's published too. The only one I could not finish is Lisey's Story. I hated it. I couldn't believe that was King.

Don't think anyone's mentioned Dream Catcher yet! I'll never forget "Shit Weasels" LOL. Or how about Cujo?!! I loved that story when I was a teenager but was so scared of big dogs afterwards...and then I was shocked to later read in "On Writing" that King barely even remembers writing Cujo as he was so 'coked' out lol!

I haven't read The Tommyknockers and Cujo in probably 16 years - I need to go back and read them! I don't think I've read all of "On Writing" although I THINK I own it somewhere. I remember Cujo being pretty freaky. I think I read Tommyknockers in middle school - my parents really should have paid more attention to my reading material.

I am a long time King fan too. My dad got me hooked reading him when I was a young teen.

Callis Rose by Mark Tufo is very good and along the lines of Carrie/Firestarter.

I started reading his zombie series and got hooked.

Give him a try.

Dolores Claiborne is a wonderful book and movie.

IT is my favorite King book. I have yet to get through The Stand - I've tried and failed reading it numerous times. Maybe this summer I'll tackle it again.

I didn't read replies, but I think King is a great story teller.

Prefer more books like The Dead Zone, Needful Things, Different Seasons; Misery and Dolores Claibourne to his more sci-fi stuff.

Love Stephen King!! The Shining was the first of his that I read and I was hooked.

I absolutely LOVE The Dark Tower Series and the most recent The Wind Through the Keyhole.

I just read where I did reply, not long ago.

I love 'The Green Mile' but thought it was kinda shitty to have to buy it piece-meal.

I read an article recently that basically said Stephen King is a good author, but because he churns out so many books people expect a stellar piece of work each time. Sometimes I think King can get long winded, but I use to really enjoy his books. Now my absolute favorite book of his... I NEVER hear people talk about. It is called The Eyes of the Dragon, and it is pure fantasy. I do believe it is tied in somehow with the Dark Tower novels. One of his best, little known works.

The villian in TEotD is the same as the villian in the Dark Tower, and in The Stand.

I read somewhere (maybe on his website?) that he was consciously trying to tie all of his stories together. And likely tie them all to The Dark Tower.

After all, "we are all servants of the beam".

Ive been reading SK for years.

I certainly haven't read everything he has written but I've read the vast majority and I love it all.

Anyone read Joyland yet?
