Since I really fixed my Nook good I have decided to replace it with a Kindle. I have tried to figure out what the big diffrerences between the two are and I really don't see a lot?? Anyone know if it is worth the extra $$ to get the HD one? It's *only* $40 but I'm just not sure what that $40 gets me other than a less awkward power switch

I would go with C: Nexus 7 instead. You get a full featured tablet and can download both the Nook and Kindle apps so you don't lose your library.
Otherwise, get the HD. It has a much nicer screen and more powerful insides.

not a fan of the Kindle Fire... uses too much battery, hard to read outside....

Depends on what you want. If you just want an e-reader then IMO get the paperwhite. If you want a tablet that will primarily be an e-reader then just the kindle fire. Fire HD if you plan to use it to watch a lot of shit.
If you want an actual tablet then get a samsung, scrub it and throw Ubuntu 12.04 on it IMO.

This Nexus thing has great reviews and several have rated it better than the Kindle Fire HD. I do like that I can keep my Nook books AND share Kindle books with my sister.
Might be the way to go...

I love my Kindle Fire but I haven't used it for reading yet! However since I've gotten it I hardly ever use my PC!
The screen is awesome for movies and photos!

Nexus is the new google tablet, right? I would definitely got with a tablet rather than the Fire. Not that it's a bad product, but I think a tablet has more expanded capabilities.
My H, Luddite that he is, just bought the Samsung 7" (I have the 8.9" which apparently is no longer available). They're a little more expensive than the Nexus, I think, but we have both been happy with them.

Yep. But isn't the Fire a tablet too? My Nook was the Nook Tablet - and as much as I do read on it, I use it a lot for oh things like FB... SI... scrabble...

I love my kindle fire. I use it for just about everything from internet surfing to watching netflix, to shopping amazon. But I am an amazon fangirl.
Have definitely never had a problem with the battery life... it lasts a good 8 hours on brightest settings.
My one complaint is the spell check is sensitive. As I type this the fire tried to change Internet surfing to interbreeding.
