I lost 40# on the Atkins diet. Now I'm thinking of going vegan. I'm sick of meat.

Is it easy to go cold turkey ??

If you're sick of meat, I'd say...yeah

You might want to do some reading about it. The China Study might be a good resource. I'm not entirely convinced it's the way to go, but they make a good case for veganism.

My dd decided she very much wanted to be a vegetarian a few days before her 12th birthday. Hasn't eaten any meat in the four years since and doesn't miss it. She's knowledgable about her diet and committed to her ethics, but doesn't share unless asked. She's a good egg that kid

I would think it would be easier to go vegetarian than vegan for sure. So much to learn and process in the meantime and there is no harm in taking it slow and getting there at your own pace. Educate yourself so that you are healthy and can tell those who want to argue with you (because oh boy they will for some ignorant reason) exactly how and why your diet works for you. It's not something I would do "cold turkey". Vegetarianism is a fairly easy transition.. veganism is not. It's not impossible but will require a lot more cooking from scratch, special shopping, and research.

Good luck

Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

Rip Esselstyn has a book out.

" My Beef with Meat"

To me it is high in carbs compare to Atkins low carbs, I don't wanna gain everything back.

Bill Clinton went Vegan and he looks healthy and slim.

I don't know.

My son became a vegetarian around 6 years ago, he eats nothing with eyes, but still eats eggs and dairy products,he has had no bad effects, he lost weight without even trying. His reasons for going vegetarian was because of a video that he was sent that showed some bad stuff at a big farm, and also from a big kill place, he was a very big meat eater before,

He eats a lot of beans, rice, tofu (nasty stuff), veggies, fruit, whole grains, if he is having a busy day he will make himself a protein shake, using a plant based protein powder, he eats cheese, drinks milk, eats ice cream, yogurt,he eats no more than 4 eggs in a week. He has tried a lot of the fake meat stuff you can buy, some has been good, some not, his favorite is a vegetarian ground beef stuff, it looks like cooked ground beef, add it to anything that you would normally use ground beef, comes in the frozen section, some of the frozen meatless burgers he has found that are okay, he has found the chicken stuff to not be very good, except for some fake wings I found for him one time, he has tried the fake bacon and lunch meat stuff, he didn't like them. Walmart here in Canada carries a lot of different vegetarian frozen foods. I have found with him it's all trial and error.

The hardest thing that I have found is going out to eat at a restaurant, he usually only will order a veggie omelet, or a build your own pizza. He is very anal about getting any animal protein, as he says it will make him very sick, because he hasn't ate meat for so long, he gets concerned with cross contamination,

My pescatarian (no meat or chicken, but will eat fish & seafood) DD has a favorite line of meatless foods:

Gardein

And she loves Trader Joe's meatless meatballs.

Good luck!

There are a lot more options for vegetarian and vegan cuisine now, but if your goal is weight loss or health rather than disdain for animal products, I'd study your options carefully. Animal free doesn't necessarily mean healthier if there are 8 processes on the path to animalesque.

I'm a pescatarian too (fish). I never was a huge meat eater, but as I've gotten older, I'm just kept leaning toward no meat.

Where it is difficult for me are the two kids in my house that do like meat, and I'm not going to push them to be vegetarian or pescatrain unless they want it for themselves. I think my son could do it, he eats like I do.

I live on dairy (greek yogurt/fruit/honey for breakfast) salads or left overs for lunch and dinner is generally healthy, whole grain and "clean". Tonight's dinner was brown rice, teriyaki salmon, and a salad. My kids wolfed it down.

I don't eat tofu and I don't eat the meat replacers and they are filled with chemicals, or the ones I've found.

Chocolate and icecream still go down just fine...as well as mojitos

I have, over the years, lost about 70 pounds since the birth of my son, when I put on that 70 pounds. Some from the infidelity diet, the rest from just eating better.
