In Saudi Arabia, those people who work 5 days and have weekends off, get Thursday and Friday off. This means for them, Thursdays are what we consider Saturday and Friday is seen as our Sunday. However, those foreign workers who work 6 days a week only get Friday off, so at one level, they see Friday as being both Saturday and Sunday. For the five day a week crowd, Wednesday is Friday. For the 6 day a week people, Wednesday is just Wednesday but Thursday is their Friday because Friday after all can be either Saturday or Sunday. Interestingly enough for both groups, Saturday is seen as being Monday.

I guess that at a certain level, any day off work that ends in a “y” has to be the weekend even if it’s only one day a week. For those days, I usually see AM as being Saturday and PM as being Sunday and that means that I sleep in late on Saturday and enjoy a nice quiet Sunday dinner later that afternoon.

Now that I am back in Canada, if you get Tuesday to Thursday off, like I do, then for some weeks, Tuesday becomes Saturday, Wednesday is Sunday and I get to enjoy a holiday Monday on the Thursday. Some weeks, I like to change it around and take Friday off on Tuesday and enjoy Saturday and Sunday during Wednesday and Thursday.

Our plans for the holiday weekend include major grocery shopping, cleaning up a bit, a cookout on Monday and seeing the grandbabies when they come in from Wisconsin. We finally get to see DGS2.
