Breaking in new shoes

I seem to do this before every vacation, I decide I need new shoes within a week of leaving and then try to break them in in time.

So they are mostly leather, to be worn without socks. I acquired them Monday and got blisters within an hour of wearing with socks. I leave Friday but I haven't given up yet.

I keep reading I can soak them and wear dry but I don't want to ruin them. Is there hope with moleskin and continued wear? Any other ideas for a quicker fix?

Are they stiff? tight? rough? What's causing the blisters?

If the shoes just need to stretch to fit your feet, I say plaster on moleskin and wear them constantly.

If your feet have to get used to the shoe (i.e. build a callous where a certain point rubs)... that's harder.

I recently bought a pair of shoes like that (but manlier). The first few days they were uncomfortable, ie blisters, etc. After a few days of wearing them they've adjusted and are very comfortable.

re: blisters - try Monistat anti chafing gel. Rub it all over your feet, particularly in the areas that are most affected. It will help keep the blisters away and will provide a barrier between the fabric & the skin.

wh5, glad to hear they get comfy quickly. I've been eyeing these shoes for almost a year, and when I saw the gold I couldn't resist.

MissesJai, I just looked that up and people also use it as a make-up primer! Will definitely have to pick some up and try it.

yes'm - and it's a damn good primer too! Much cheaper and just as good as those high end primers.

You can also dab the parts of the shoe that need to stretch with some rubbing alcohol, then put the shoe on, and it will stretch just right.

I have had success with putting the shoes on WITH socks, and then heating the shoes up (on your feet) with a blow dryer. Let the shoes cool down (still on your feet).

Good luck, Crescita.
