Stopping the Mind Chatter

So, 180 can be HARD sometimes. I think the hardest part is dealing with the "crazy" as I call it. Those times when my mind chatter goes nuts, lots of thoughts of him, what's he doing, does he care, how could he do this, will our life ever be back on track, etc. I've been in 180 long enough that once those thoughts start, I know I need out of them PRONTO because they're counterproductive. None of that matters, as I have no control of any of those types of questions, and all I should let rent space in my mind is things I can have influence over, like my kids, my health, my activities today, etc. Finally, this past week, I've found something that is really working to redirect my thoughts to an uplifting, peaceful, joyful place. So, I thought I'd share for anyone else struggling with thoughts of things beyond your control.

Think of one thing you're grateful for that is the color of each of the colors of the rainbow. ("I am grateful for [a red item]", "I really love [something an orange color]", .....)......and once you get through that, think of your favorite crayon colors as a kid (mine was cerulean blue but strawberry red and burnt sienna were close seconds), then think of things you're grateful for of those colors......now go back and think of 10 red things, 10 orange things......and so on. This can go on as long as you need until you feel the peaceful calm about you, and it's a lot harder than it sounds!

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

I've been playing an anagram game on my kindle. It helps to distract me from my thoughts. I'm closing in on 22 million points, which is both funny and sad.

When I'm not on the kindle and start thinking of the A, I come up with a word and start forming as many other words from it as I can.

Battling the demons isn't always easy.

I am struggling with this too. I find that picturing my doggies - running towards me and smiling - helps. :)
