My XH works for the Department of Defense. They are being furloughed until September. The child support is garnished through the state. Does anyone know how this will affect the child support?

I don't know what jurisdiction your XH is in, but from the little that I've read about it, he can apply for a modification through the court system. However, one could argue that the furlough is temporary and therefore it wouldn't be granted.
Here's some information for employees located in Virginia. I don't know about other states.

I'd contact your attorney and see how it would affect you directly.

I'm more worried about how much the state will take out of his pay check. I think they can only take up to a certain percentage. I'm not sure though.
If he did try to modify the child support, it would probably take months and by then the furlough might be over. I've heard it might not even last until September.

Think I may have figured this out. I did some digging online and I also found my decree. If the state goes by the decree then they can take up to 55% of his check.
Our divorce was 5 yrs ago. I haven't done a modification since. I'm sure he's had raises since then. So hopefully I'll be okay.

I hope everything works out peridot.
I don't think you have anything to worry about, but I'm glad you were able to find information that relives some of your worry.

I work for DoD also, and the furlough is one day a week, in our case every Friday. That works out to approximately 20% of our pay. You can only get reimbursed by unemployment in our state for approximately 30% of what you lose and only if you take all 88 hours consecutively. So, it's only one day a week, totally 88 hours altogether as it ends in September. Hope that helps!
