So, I really dont have a place here in Indy that i get my hair did at.
As you remember, back in December, i just cut over 12 inches off my hair, and its grown back about 3ish inches, maybe.
Any way....I loved my curly hair in middle school, but I would prefer not to have it like such a tight curl like i did.
Is there away to get a perm but it not be so tightly curled? I am not wanting so loose that its really just wavy, but I am way to old to look like Shirley Temple.

Yes. Just tell them you want loose curls or waves. Bring a picture of what you want them to look like. They'll be tighter the first 1-2 days but will loosen up when you first wash it.
ETA: I had mine permed a couple years ago (stick straight naturally) and it was this type of curl: 
They used big foam rollers to set the shape, but I had it done in a fairly antiquated salon in a small city in China, so methods in the western world might be different (or more advanced).
