We quit smoking!!
In those 8 years, I have with no exceptions, pulled out $200.00 less cash every week out of our payroll deposits. That's what we were spending on cigarettes each week when we quit.
$200.00 X 52(weeks)= $10,400.00 a year.
$10,400.00 X 8 (years) = $83,200.00.
That's how much money we have saved by not smoking!! We have done some extraordinary things with that money over the years and there is no better feeling than knowing we paid cash AND our health has benefitted from it
I still love the smell of cigarette smoke and will practically sit in our smoking friends lap when they light up
but I couldn't be prouder of us

That's wonderful!

Speaking as an asthmatic who could never understand how anyone would inhale smoke into a perfectly good set of lungs, I congratulate you both on being 8 years smoke free.

Ohhhhh, good for you and MH, DS!
I quit in 1976; I don't recall what cigarette prices were at the time, but I calculate I spent about $10/week. Times 52 weeks x 37 years, even at 1976 prices, I've saved over $19,000--and much, much more if I re-calculate using the huge increase.
Age: 64..ummmmmmm, no...............65....no...oh, hell born in 1947. You figure it out!

We used the Patch and didn't cheat at all. We set a quit date and stuck to it. I can tell you this...we had a few really awful fights the first year. No matter how hard we tried to keep from completely exploding, there were times...well...lets just say the neighbors knew we were fighting

Awesome.
I am always astounded at how much cigarettes cost.
