I live in the northwest corner of New Mexico. It's definitely an acquired taste, but LOVE it here. Summers are not bad at all. 100 is rare and humidity is non-existant. Winters are mild (maybe a few days of below zero and one decent snow -6-10"- a year). We are less than an hour drive from world-class fly fishing, skiing, hiking, amazing ruins and lots of other outdoor activities. Also, if you like the mountains, but not mountain winters, this is great. I can see them from my front door and be there in an hour or less, but I don't get the seriously snowy, cold winters of the Colorado mountains. However, we are not a city. The city here has about 45,000 people and to get to to anything bigger you have to drive 180 miles.

My favorites are Minnesota and Arizona.

Minnesota. Southeast Minnesota specifically. The bluffs, rivers, lakes, winding roads, small towns, fall colors. It's amazing...BUT I hate winter and the humidity in the summer sucks.

Arizona is another favorite, especially the Phoenix area. The heat, lack of humidity, great winters, mountains that look purple during sunset, the mountain drives, plethora of things to do. It's wonderful...except for the lack of green and no privacy.

I want to check out the northwest. Washington and Oregon, west of the mountains, look promising.

Northern California.

California is two states politically and climatically. Basically, Southern California includes everything up to Santa Barbara on the coast, and all of the central valley up to Chico.

Northern California starts in central California on the coast (San Luis Obispo and north), but also includes the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

I was born in Southern California then moved to Northern California when I was in grade school, so this is really home to me.

Then I moved to north of Boston

Then moved back to NorCal

Then moved to Upstate New York, then Connecticut, Massachusetts, then Northern Virginia. Then a stint in Germany, then back to NorCal, then Ohio, South Carolina, then back to NorCal. I can't leave here ever again.

Sure the cost of living is high. Like, really high. But you get what you pay for. Gorgeous weather 300 days a year. We have two seasons: Dry, and Wet. Wet includes rain, but it comes in spurts and then leaves for a few days or a week. Dry includes heat, but then the fog comes in.

I live 1 hour from great beaches, 1 hour from the fabulous city that is San Francisco, 20 minutes to the heart of all that is High-tech, Silicon Valley, 2.5 hours to wine country, 4 hours to Tahoe and the glorious Sierra Nevada, get FRESH vegetables all year round, and best of all, I'm surrounded by public land, thousands and thousands of acres set aside as parks or undeveloped openspace, full of trails and spectacular natural beauty that you can enjoy ALL YEAR ROUND. Even in driving rain, the redwoods are spectacular.

If you have a degree and some decent skills, jobs generally pay well around here. Many people can't afford to buy a home at market rates, but most people can afford to rent something nice.

NorCal probably sucks if you have very little education, and very conservative political views. But most conservatives move to SoCal.

I generally like the people I meet here.

I'm a VA girl as well.

I like the diversity of the state. The northern part is close to DC, a true melting pot of cultures, and just a fun place overall.

We have beaches, mountains, and some of the best colleges (and high schools) in the nation. Also, the low taxes don't hurt!

Chicago. I've lived a lot of other places, too, and I love it here. The seasons are brutal, but I feel like Chicago is the best summer city in the country.

I lived in Chicago but San Diego is now my home. I love it here. So def California.

VA native - hard to beat the Shenandoah Valley. Love Hawaii ... red rock country in Utah (and skiing) ... Wyoming ... a few others

Well, I am very partial to California, not just because I live here I've been to AZ, WA, PA, NY, LA, and lived in FL. Cali has my heart.

Oh yeah, if I couldn't get back to VA, my second-pick would be Utah. Visited my brother in the SLC area, and absolutely loved it. Plus, Utah is home to my mecca - Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I would move to UT in the blink of an eye.

I am a born and bred NY'er and love it here. Hot muggy summer and freezing messy winters but I love it all. The atmosphere the attitude the food...

I have fond memories of everywhere I lived NY state, Massachussets. I love Maine and Vermont. I am loving living where I am now, in the North State, California.

Nothing like the wine country in Northern California. It may be expensive for us, but at least the wine dulls the pain.

I went to college in Chico and agree! I grew up on Humboldt county and we call that "REAL NorCal" lol

I was born and raised in Washington, specifically the western side of the cascades. I love the fact I can see Mt. Rainier almost every day from my house. Close to skiing, hiking, camping, fishing, etc. East of the cascades has a totally different feel, desert like in areas, but tons of farming.

I lived in the Chicagoland area for 5 years and was not a fan. I guess because I'm so use to the topography.

And if South Jersey gets their wish, we can secede from the North and all be happier!

Anything north of where 287 hits 80 is part of NYC anyway.

Also, we have a drive in down here.
